“ | Stranded on a distant planet with only a small hope for survival... | ” |
Pikmin was Emile's 12th LP. This LP has 18 videos and has a total length of 4 hours, 33 minutes, and 39 seconds. It was released in tandem with Super Luigi Galaxy, but fans seemed to prefer it between the two. It was released from August to October 2010. The LP remains one of Emile's most memorable, and introduced the character of Steve, who was frequently featured and alluded to in the LP.
The game's story focuses on an alien pilot, Captain Olimar, who crash lands on a mysterious planet and must make use of a native species called "Pikmin" to find his ship's missing parts in order to escape within 30 days. Players take control of Olimar and in directing the different varieties of Pikmin to exploring the game's various levels, overcoming obstacles and hostile creatures, in order to find and recover the missing ship parts.

Episode Log
Day 1
After crash landing on a distant planet, Olimar finds his ship destroyed with 30 parts missing! So then he starts looking about his surroundings, when he finds a strange object that resembled an "onion" to him. Olimar was too curious, so he approached the onion when all the sudden the onion jumped up and sprouted a seed. Olimar didn't know what this "thing" was, so he pulled the seed and a Red Pikmin pops out looking a tad confused. The Pikmin appeared to enjoy carrying things to and fro from base, so Olimar had thought about keeping it, not as a pet, but as a helping tool to help obtain the ship parts. So he sprouted some more Pikmin and recovered the first ship part of the game. Can they get all 30?
Day 2
Olimar and the Pikmin find a new area called "The Forest Of Hope," filled with life forms. They have much hassle trying to kill off the new enemy, the Spotty Bulborbs. After the battle Olimar is very annoyed to find he is one Pikmin away from getting the ship part. Later in the day, Olimar and Steve find the new Yellow Pikmin, named Bob. Olimar will later recall Bob as the most useless Pikmin.
Day 3
Olimar gets three more ship parts in The Forest of Hope.
Day 4
The Pikmin and Olimar go to a new world called "The Forest Navel," where Olimar finds a new type of Pikmin that seems to be immune to drowning.
Day 5
Olimar and the Pikmin go back to The Impact Site to get one more ship part. After that, they attempt to sprout as many Pikmin as possible.
Day 6
Rather than going to The Forest of Hope, Olimar goes to The Forest Navel one more time.
Day 7
Everyone goes back to The Forest of Hope to get the last three ship parts that they couldn't get before.
Day 8
Steve proves himself worthy of Olimar by risking his life, trying to carry back a Fiery Blowhog. This Day had more deaths than any other Day.
Day 9
Olimar collects the last ship part of the Forest Navel.
Day 10
Olimar goes to a new area (The Distant Spring) and tries to fight off his worst nightmare, Yellow Wollywogs. After a day of lost battles, Olimar tries to build a bridge leading to base. When the clock hit "0," none of the 98 Pikmin working on the bridge appeared. Olimar was furious. He then noticed that all but two must have crawled in at the last second.
Day 11
Olimar and the Pikmin come back to the Distant Spring and obtain a few more ship parts.
Day 12
Fights the Armored Cannon Beetle.
Day 13
Gets the last ship parts in the Distant Spring..
Day Days 14, 15, and 16
Olimar attempts to fight all the unnecessary bosses, such as the Smoky Progg.
Day 17 (Finale)
Olimar has only one more part, guarded by the final boss, Emperor Bulblax. Olimar has a plan to make the Yellow Pikmin useful at the final battle by luring the boss, like bait. After three deaths, Olimar finally gets the final ship part, and returns home.
Memorable Moments
- Day 1:
- "He [Olimar] is compelled to approach and press "A"! Because that is what video game protagonists do, they approach things and press "A"!"
- Chugga contemplates whether Pikmin get sexual pleasure out of carrying objects.
- After pushing the first cardboard box Chugga proclaims that with the the power of teamwork they have destroyed Man’s mortal enemy CARDBOARD!
- Chugga tries to get the ship’s engine back with the power of SLAVERY only to find that he doesn’t have enough Pikmin.
- Day 2:
- Chugga tries to fend off a Spotty Bulborb by screaming "Go Away!" at it. It works.
- Day 3:
- He shows a cut he made where a group of sheargrubs set off a chain reaction of bomb rocks, killing most of his yellow Pikmin.
- Day 5:
- Chugga spends the last few seconds of the day trying to punch a bomb-rock, then killing several pellet posies using Olimar's punch. Chugga: "Hah! I killed two more! Just try to stop m- *day ends* -aw dang it, it stopped me.
- Day 6:
- "... So B.R- GET UP!!" The way he says is just makes it even funnier.
- Chugga dismisses a group of yellow Pikmin next to a propped-up branch. The Pikmin proceed to climb the branch and drop themselves into a pool of water. Later on, they do it again. Chugga: *angrily grunting* PIKMIN AI!!!
- After leaving the Red Pikmin to fight some Fiery Blowhogs (who can't hurt them), Chugga comes back to find one Red idly laying around, being shot at by a blowhog. Chugga: Wow, a red's just laying there while it blows fire at him like "Would you just die! God!"
- Day 8:
- Chugga has a group of yellows carry the recently-collected Libra towards his ship and walks off to do something else. Seconds later, he remembers that he already did that something else, then comes back to find about two-thirds of his yellow Pikmin on fire (he completely forgot about the fire geysers). Cue Oh, Crap! reaction and frantic whistling.
- Chugga finding Steve proving his worth.
- Day 10:
- Him thinking he had lost 98 blue Pikmin. Even better was the nonchalant "Oh." that followed.
- Day 14:
- "You just gotta squash his brain, squash his brain...that sounds like a really bad rap song..."
- Finale:
- After getting the Secret Safe, when Olimar mentions having no regrets, Chuggaaconroy is like "No regrets! Right..." (cue flashback of every battle where he lost a few/a lot of Pikmin, including a cut where a shearwig caused an explosion that killed his whole battalion) "...right! No regrets at all!"
- His speech to the yellow Pikmin telling them to all commit suicide with the bomb rocks so they can have their souls teleported to an intergalactic-traveling spaceship.
Videos
YouTube Suspension

In July 2010, during production of the Let's Play, both Emile and Timothy Bishop (NintendoCapriSun) were suspended under false copyright claims, though both their accounts were later restored weeks later. At the time of their suspensions, YouTube did not check these copyright violation reports before taking the videos down, and once a user had three videos taken down, their account was suspended. This left the system open to some hefty abuse, as was the case here.
The person or group of people went around YouTube reporting videos for false copyright violations under false names (like Timothy Bishop, the real name of NintendoCapriSun), sometimes affiliated themselves with large companies like Nintendo. For instance, one of Emile’s videos was taken down by a user who claimed to own the copyrights to the Pokémon franchise, while another was taken down by a user who claimed ownership over Emile’s voice.
Prior to Emile's suspension, YouTube partner support was contacted constantly in order to prevent him from getting suspended and to notify them about the vandals submitting the false claims. For a while, it looked like Emile might not get suspended, but the vandals redirected all of their efforts at him to finally get him suspended on July 16th. The videos that Emile received falsely copyright claims were three Days of his Pokémon Crystal LP (claimed by vandals named Richard Molina and Lynn Ann Wayne) and one Day of his Super Mario Sunshine LP (claimed by a vandal impersonating Timothy Bishop) [1] Both Emile and Tim's suspensions were reported on multiple websites including Zelda Universe and Bulbapedia, with Emile sharing these reports to spread word of the situation.[2]
On July 19th 2010, Emile revealed that the vast majority of his videos still work elsewhere, but that this might not be the case for too much longer.[3] Emile responded by submitting counter-claims to the vandals that took down his account with false claims, by doing this, he was able to negate the effects of their claims. On July 31st 2010, Emile had his account unbanned from YouTube and thanked his fans for being patient throughout the situation, saying "Gotta say, I want to thank each and every one of you who was patient throughout this whole thing. I would've never had such a strong drive to come back without you, even if I like making videos so much."[4][5]
Following his account being restored, Emile began receiving questions asking why Tim also didn't get his account restored; Emile responded by saying "I can personally assure you: He'll be back soon."[6] On August 3rd 2010, Emile revealed that Tim had been unbanned from YouTube.[7] Despite having his account restored, Emile had his videos removed for no apparent reason, saying "Filling in everyone who's just waking up because I'm getting mail about it faster than I can reply: I did NOT delete my videos or set them to private. YouTube removed all my videos for no apparent reason, they all say "Video Rejected (Account Suspended)" on the My Videos page. They possibly think I'm suspended and should lose all my videos when I'm really not suspended."[8][9][10] On August 4th 2010, Emile revealed that his videos were now back online.[11] He clarified that this wasn't the result of any new flagging or DMCA claim, saying "Guys, this isn't the result of any new flagging or DMCA claim. I have 0 Emails telling me that a video of mine was taken down or even has a claim on it. This was YouTube's doing, has nothing to do with a flag or a DMCA claim."[12][13]
The temporary suspension led to Emile's channel getting further attention after it was reported on multiple websites including Zelda Universe and Bulbapedia, ironically doing him more good than harm in the end.[14] In a video on ZeldaUniverseTV, Emile and Tim were interviewed about the false DMCA claims that led to both of their suspensions, as well as the suspension of several other gaming-related YouTube channels. This interview was later deleted for unknown reasons.[15] Fellow Let's Player JoshJepson also did an interview with Emile and Tim about the situation.[16]
Trivia
- This Let's Play was the introduction of Steve the Red Pikmin, Joe the Blue Pikmin, and Bob the Yellow Pikmin.
- Emile has since regretted creating Steve. Although Emile was initially fond of the character, the extreme lengths fans went to portray Steve as a memetic badass across all of social media made Emile rather sick of Steve's memetic status. It doesn't help that those same fans were namedropping Steve in any and all Pikmin-related media so often that other YouTubers had complained to Emile about how their comments sections in their own Pikmin videos were filled with people asking about Steve with little-to-no context, thus ruining the experience of playing the game for them. This has resulted in Emile having some rather volatile reactions to the name Steve being mentioned or referenced (intentionally or otherwise) in other projects, much to Proton Jon's delight. However, Emile still indulges the fans with shout outs to him on occasion.
