Ottawa is Emile/Blair's Samurott in Pokémon White. She was the first Pokémon to join his team.
Why Emile Chose Samurott[]
Emile confided that all three of the Unova starters were designed as tanks, and he was comfortable playing with any of them. However, he chose Oshawott due to its past as being the most ignored among the three starters prior to the game's release; this resonated with Emile due to him apparently always being picked last in gym class. He later revealed that Oshawott's official artwork didn't do it justice; he agreed with public opinion at first, but sees it as adorable now.
Stats[]
Ottawa has a Docile Nature, which neither helps nor hinders any stats. Additionally, her characteristic is "Mischievous", meaning that her highest IV is for her Special Attack stat. Fans later calculated that said IV is a perfect 31.[1]
In Episode 60, after speaking with the Stats Judge in Gear Station, it was realized that Ottawa had a perfect 31 IV in both her Attack and Special Attack stats.

Nickname Origin[]
Ottawa is a city and river in Canada; Emile selected it as her nickname both because it was fun to say and because he (erroneously) believed that beavers—prominent in Canada—were relatives of otters. It may also be a reference to the fact his TRG partner Jon is Canadian.
Trivia[]
- Ottawa is Emile's first female starter Pokémon.
- Ottawa is Emile's eighth Water-Type Pokémon team member, the others being Tessie, Odairu, Kappa, Acooltent, Marshall, Mah Stache, and Vanity.
- Ottawa is Emile's second Water-Type starter Pokémon, the other being Odairu.
- This isn't the only time Emile has repeated a Starter type three generations after the first occurrence, as Bulbapedia (Kanto, FireRed) and Bodhi (Sinnoh, Platinum) are a case of this.
- Pokemon Adventures and one case in the anime are also notable for this. The anime case in question is with May and Serena both choosing the Fire-type starter, which Emile is currently lined up to follow as Blaziken was his starter in Emerald.
- Ottawa and Odairu are both Water-type Starter Pokemon who stay as pure Water-types throughout their evolutionary lines. With the current rotation setup, it's highly likely that Sobble (who also stays as a pure Water-type throughout its evolutionary line) will be Emile's starter when he gets to the Galar games.
- Ottawa is Emile's second Water-Type starter Pokémon, the other being Odairu.
- Ottawa appears in the thumbnail of Pokémon Black & White - Episode 6: Blitz and Blam as a Dewott.
- Ottawa's Hidden Power is Ice-type.[2]
- Ottawa only knew Strength in order to reach Terrakion's location; before the next episode the move it replaced, Aqua Jet, was relearned offscreen.
- Funnily enough, out of all of the Pokemon team members, while not counting HM Slaves, Ottawa knows the most HMs in her moveset in battle. She used Surf and Waterfall in-battle. (Strength if you count the Terrakion fight at Victory Road once).
- Ottawa is the capital of Canada, making this Emile's only Pokémon to share its name with a capital.
- Ottawa was so powerful, that it was able to defeat Cynthia's entire team in the final episode of Pokemon Black and White on its own.
- In a YouTube comment, Terrabite was indicating it was the most useful member of Blair's team; after Roc said 'Hold my Lemonade' before wrecking both Marriland and Masae, Ottawa followed Roc's move before solo-ing Cynthia.
- It resulted in a comment chain where Haywire said she'd be sobbing in a corner (after getting shown-up for the umpteenth time), Hilbert and Hex were just saying random stuff, and fanfiction author KhaosOmega referenced Ottawa vs Cynthia as Andrew Panton vs Crota in a Destiny raid (Panton had beaten the raid - and Crota - solo).
