Eidolon (EYE-doh-lun) is Emile's Dusknoir in his Let's Play of Pokémon Platinum. He was the sixth and final Pokémon to join Emile's team.

Pokémon Platinum[]

Episode 53: Giratina[]

Emile captured Eidolon as a Level 39 Dusclops in the Sendoff Spring. He was the second Dusclops Emile encountered, after the first one (which Emile referred to as Eidolon's "brother") knocked itself out with Curse.

During the battle, Vanity weakened the Ghost Type to low green HP and froze it. After a failed Heal Ball, Eidolon thawed out and used Pursuit, doing a minimal amount of damage to the partially weakened Vanity. Emile then failed with a Great Ball and his last Heal Ball, after both of which the Beckon Pokémon used Shadow Punch, with the second knocking Vanity out. Supernova took the field next. While she was also weakened partially, she took no damage from the Shadow Punches as Emile tossed a Net Ball and Ultra Ball, both of which Eidolon broke out of. When he used Curse, his HP was reduced to the red, while Supernova's Magic Guard prevented her from taking damage from the Curse. Emile's Timer Ball would then succeed.

Eidolon was not nicknamed at the time of his capture. Once back at the Pokémon Center, Emile took the Kasib Berry he was holding.

Episode 54: Willpower Trip[]

Using another game cartridge and console that he owned, Emile evolved Eidolon into Dusknoir by trading him while he held a Reaper Cloth. The newly evolved Eidolon was then traded back to Emile's main save file offscreen. While in Pastoria City, Emile went to the Move Reminder and taught Eidolon some new moves in exchange for Heart Scales. This includes Fire Punch, Shadow Sneak, and Ice Punch, for which Emile deleted Curse, Shadow Punch, and Pursuit respectively.

Eidolon's first battle was when Emile encountered Azelf inside the cavern at Lake Valor. Though he had less than 100 HP, Eidolon was surprisingly good at tanking Future Sights from Azelf, while also being immune to Uproar and Swift. He weakened the Willpower Pokémon to red HP with four Ice Punches. After he was reduced to red HP from two Future Sights and healed to full HP by Emile however, Azelf would sharply boost its Special Attack with Nasty Plot. While Eidolon would barely survive a Future Sight amplified by two Nasty Plots from full HP (after which he was healed again), Emile knew he couldn't take one with maxed out Special Attack from a third Nasty Plot.

Emile switched out Eidolon for Vanity offscreen, switched him back in after Vanity fainted, switched him out for Supernova, then switched Eidolon back in once more after both Supernova and Psythe (who came out after Supernova) fainted. Due to Eidolon's Pressure Ability doubling Azelf's PP usage, Emile was concerned that it would eventually run out of PP completely and use Struggle, KOing itself via recoil. However, after several more failed Poke Balls of various types, Emile ultimately caught Azelf with an Ultra Ball.

Episode 55: Knowledge is Power[]

Eidolon was used as Emile tried to catch Uxie in the cavern at Lake Acuity. After a failed Quick Ball and Ultra Ball, he weakened Uxie down significantly with repeated Ice Punches, one of which scored a critical. Eidolon once again matched up well against Uxie by being immune to Swift and taking a Future Sight with ease. Emile also used a Chesto Berry on Eidolon when he was put to sleep by Yawn. He ultimately switched Eidolon out for Vanity when Uxie used Amnesia to boost its Special Defense, intending for Vanity to gradually weaken it further with the hopes she could freeze Uxie with Ice Beam. However, Vanity would knock out Uxie due to a critical, forcing Emile to reset.

For the second attempt, Eidolon was again in the lead spot when Emile tried and failed with a Quick Ball. Like before, he was switched out for Vanity offscreen, but Vanity would inadvertently KO Uxie with a critical Ice Beam. Eidolon was not in the lead for the attempt when Emile successfully caught Uxie, with Vanity being the only Pokémon used instead for the third attempt of the battle.

Episode 57: The Untraveled Road[]

After Emile defeated Fisherman Alec on Route 222, Emile gave the Exp Share to Eidolon to help him catch up to the rest of Emile's team in level. Emile fought several other trainers on Route 222. However, Eidolon grew to Level 40 from the Exp Share when Psythe defeated a wild Floatzel on the same route.

Episode 58: The Shore is Always Sunny[]

Emile temporarily deposited Eidolon and the rest of his main team as he briefly returned to Solaceon Town to receive Poke Ball Seals by showing various forms of Unown to the boy.

Episode 59: City Volkner[]

Before challenging the Sunyshore City Gym, Emile gave Eidolon his nickname offscreen. Eidolon was also raised to Level 42 during offscreen training.

Eidolon continued to gain experience from the Exp Share while Emile battled the trainers in the Sunyshore Gym. He grew to Level 43 when Psythe defeated Ace Trainer Destiny's Raichu and tried to learn Mean Look. Emile declined due to Eidolon's low Speed making him impractical to trap Roaming Legendary Pokémon into battle. Eidolon later grew to Level 44 during the battle with Poke Kid Meghan, after Psythe knocked out her second Pikachu.

During the battle against Sunyshore Gym Leader Volkner, Emile sent out Eidolon against Volkner's last and strongest Pokémon: Electivire. The Electric Type did just less than half of Eidolon's HP with a Thunder Punch before he responded with Will-O-Wisp to burn it, taking off a small amount of its health as the turn ended. The next turn, Eidolon used Shadow Sneak to go first, with the move and burn damage leaving Electivire in low green HP. Its retaliatory Thunder Punch did less damage than before due to its lowered Attack from the burn, putting Eidolon at 35/101 Hit Points. While the next Shadow Sneak dropped Electivire into the yellow, its Sitrus Berry healed it back to the green. As such, it was in the high yellow zone after the burn damaged it at the turn's end. Electivire also survived the next Thunder Punch with 13 HP.

Emile then used a Moomoo Milk to heal Eidolon's health back to full, before the next Thunder Punch from Electivire brought him back to 76 HP. After the burn put the Electric Type in mid yellow HP, its following Thunder Punch reduced Eidolon to 52 Hit Points before he retaliated with Fire Punch due to it being higher power. Unfortunately, even after the damage from the burn, Electivire survived with a sliver of red HP, prompting Volkner to use a Full Restore. That turn, Emile had Eidolon go for Shadow Sneak, taking off a small amount of Electivire's restored health. On the following turn, Eidolon lived another Thunder Punch with nine Hit Points, but missed with Will-O-Wisp as he attempted to burn Electivire again. This prompted Emile to use another Moomoo Milk. Eidolon was able to endure two more Thunder Punches at six HP before he successfully landed Will-O-Wisp. He used Shadow Sneak one more time before fainting to a Fire Punch. At the end of that turn, Electivire was back in yellow health after taking damage from the burn twice, and from the Shadow Sneak. Eidolon's efforts would enable Psythe to finish off Electivire with ease.

Episode 60: Keep Your Wittz About You[]

Eidolon participated in Emile's battle with TheJWittz. He was sent out to battle Josh's Scizor: Blur, who defeated Supernova. Blur was just over half HP when Eidolon took the field. He did a little more than a third of Eidolon's health with Steel Wing before fainting to a 4x effective Fire Punch. Josh's next Pokémon was his Houndoom: SilentWolf. After barely enduring a Faint Attack, Eidolon used Ice Punch, due to Emile wanting to avoid triggering SilentWolf's Flash Fire, and hoping it would freeze. While the attack did minimal damage with it not being very effective, it successfully froze the Dark/Fire Type. Eidolon then used Shadow Sneak for the next four turns for priority damage. Despite the resistance, he lowered SilentWolf to red HP before he defrosted and KO'd the Ghost Type with another Faint Attack. Even with Eidolon fainting, Emile eventually won the battle.

Episode 61: Jasmine Water[]

Emile briefly deposited Eidolon in the PC in favor of Sweet Ride as he went to reshuffle HM moves between her and Derpidius and teach the latter Waterfall in order to reach the Pokémon League at the end of Route 223. Once Emile returned to Sunyshore City, Eidolon was placed back in the party.

With him holding the Exp Share, Eidolon continued to gain experience during the various battles on Route 223. He was elevated to Level 45 when Psythe beat Swimmer Aubree and her Azumarill. During the fight with Swimmer Oscar, Eidolon was sent out against Oscar's Mantine after it confused Psythe. The Ghost Type only lost 15 Hit Points to a Bounce attack switching in. With the Stingray already weakened to a chip of red health, Eidolon easily took it out with Shadow Sneak. Emile then switched out Eidolon in favor of Psythe again when Oscar sent out his Remoraid.

Eidolon was healed once Emile reached the Pokémon Center at the entrance to Victory Road. He was also put in the PC temporarily once again as Emile used both Sweet Ride and Derpidius to revisit Routes 208 and 210 to obtain newly accessible items with the HM for Waterfall.

Episode 62: Road to Victory[]

Due to holding the Exp Share, Eidolon garnered tons of experience from the trainers Emile fought inside Victory Road. He was raised to Level 46 when Emile defeated Ace Trainer Bryce's Haunter. During the battle with Ace Trainer Mariah, Emile sent out Eidolon against Mariah's Glalie. While he lost most of his own health to Glalie's two Crunch attacks, two retaliatory Fire Punches were able to defeat the Ice Type. Emile then switched out Eidolon for Bodhi when Mariah sent out her Magnezone. Eidolon was elevated to Level 47 once Bodhi had beaten the Magnet Pokémon. Afterwards, Emile healed Eidolon's HP before continuing.

Later, Eidolon grew to Level 48 during the fight with Ace Trainer Sydney, after her Clefable was defeated by Bodhi.

Episode 63: End of the Road[]

Eidolon gained experience from the Exp Share during the battle with Black Belt Miles inside Victory Road, with Psythe easily defeating his Machamp. After the battle, Emile took the Exp Share off of Eidolon and gave it to Acrobat, since the former was already tied for being the highest leveled Pokémon with Supernova (who wasn't in the party at the time).

During a later fight against Veteran Edgar, Eidolon was sent out against Edgar's Empoleon after Psythe was KO'd. With the Penguin Pokémon already weakened to red HP, Eidolon tried to finish it off using Shadow Sneak, but merely left it with a sliver. Despite that, Empoleon only used Growl and left him unscathed before his second Shadow Sneak finally defeated it. Emile then switched out Eidolon for Bodhi when Edgar sent out his Porygon-Z, which was significantly weakened earlier in the battle.

Once Emile cleared Victory Road, arrived at the main Pokémon League building, and healed at the Pokémon Center counter inside, he had his sixth battle against Barry. Emile sent out Eidolon to fight Barry's Snorlax. He first used Will-O-Wisp to burn the Normal Type before it retaliated with a super effective Crunch. Though the Crunch did less damage as a result of the burn and left Eidolon in green HP, it also lowered his Defense. This forced Emile to switch out Eidolon for Bodhi after the burn took off a chip of Snorlax's health. Luckily, the burn made it easier for Bodhi to stand up to the Sleeping Pokémon's attacks and finish it off.

Episode 64: The Miracle of Bertha[]

While preparing for the Elite Four, Emile trained Eidolon and the rest of his team to Level 52 offscreen. Emile also taught Eidolon Payback in place of Will-O-Wisp, justifying his slow Speed making him easily able to execute Payback to its fullest power by moving second. In addition, Emile equipped the Icicle Plate as Eidolon's hold item to boost the power of his Ice Punch. Before officially beginning his Pokémon League challenge, Emile used an Iron to raise Eidolon's base Defense. He also used a Carbos to increase his Speed Effort Values due to every other Pokémon already having maxed out Speed EVs.

During the battle with the first member of the Elite Four: the Bug Type specializing Aaron, Eidolon was sent out against Aaron's strongest Pokémon: Drapion, after it knocked out Bodhi. Drapion used Ice Fang twice, while Eidolon used two Fire Punches. Eidolon only took a small amount of damage from the second Ice Fang when the first one missed. Meanwhile, the combined damage from both Fire Punches brought Drapion to the low green zone. Unfortunately, the third Ice Fang froze Eidolon after it left him at 77/119 HP. Emile used a Full Heal to defrost Eidolon, only for him to be frozen again by the next Ice Fang, which also put his health into the yellow. After Emile used a second Full Heal, Eidolon's HP was reduced to the red by the next two Ice Fangs before his retaliatory Fire Punch put Drapion's HP in the yellow zone. This triggered its Sitrus Berry, restoring its health to slightly more than it had before the Fire Punch. Emile used a Moomoo Milk on the following turn, healing Eidolon's HP to one Hit Point less than his maximum 119. That turn, Drapion used Cross Poison. While said move combined with another Ice Fang merely put Eidolon to 82 Hit Points, he was frozen for a third time. Astonished over how unlucky Eidolon has been, Emile switched him out for Vanity.

Once Emile won the battle, he healed Eidolon's HP and defrosted him before proceeding to the next member of the Elite Four.

Episode 65: Lucian Dreams[]

Eidolon was used briefly in Emile's battle with Elite Four Flint. He took the field against Flint's strongest Pokémon: Magmortar, after it KO'd Psythe. With the Fire Type already weakened to the red zone, and Flint having previously used a Full Restore before Psythe weakened it again, Eidolon easily KO'd it using his priority Shadow Sneak. The experience from Magmortar's faint raised Eidolon to Level 53. Emile then switched him out in favor of Vanity when Flint sent out his Flareon.

In the battle with the Psychic Type Elite Four member Lucian, Eidolon was sent out to face Lucian's Gallade, his strongest Pokémon. Knowing he would move second, Emile commanded Eidolon to use Payback to execute the move at its maximum power. He took a Psycho Cut with a little more than half of his HP, but the planned Payback only did a small amount of damage to Gallade due to the Reflect which was set up by Lucian's Mr. Mime earlier. However, the Reflect faded at the end of the turn. Eidolon resorted to Shadow Sneak on the next turn, lowering Gallade's health to the yellow zone before its Sitrus Berry healed it back to the green, but lower than what it was at the beginning of the turn. Gallade used another Psycho Cut, lowering Eidolon to 21/121 Hit Points. He then used Shadow Sneak one more time, reducing the Blade Pokemon's health to the low yellow before fainting to Leaf Blade. Once Emile defeated Lucian, Eidolon was healed and revived offscreen.

Episode 66 [Finale][]

Eidolon was used in Emile's battle with Sinnoh League Champion Cynthia. He was sent out to fight Cynthia's ace Pokémon: Garchomp. Eidolon took an Earthquake with a little more than a third of his HP remaining before he retaliated with the quad effective Ice Punch. However, even with the boost in power from the Icicle Plate, it only lowered Garchomp to the mid yellow zone before its Sitrus Berry healed it back to the low green. Eidolon then used Shadow Sneak for priority damage, putting the Pseudo Legendary back into the yellow before it KO'd him with Dragon Rush.

After Emile won the battle, Eidolon and the rest of the team were inducted into the Sinnoh Hall of Fame.

Episode 67: The Second Journey[]

Emile deposited Eidolon in the PC offscreen for Sweet Ride, as he needed to Fly to certain points throughout the Sinnoh region to revisit.

Episode 74: The Bio Weapon[]

Eidolon was used by Emile to battle trainers along Route 228.

Nickname Origin[]

An eidolon is a type of phantom in Greek mythology, and also a pun on the word "eye". Eidolon is also the name of a race of beings in Final Fantasy XIII, with each party member getting one of their own. In addition, eidolon means "idealized," which is fitting since Eidolon has an Adamant nature. It might also incorporate the name Dolan.

Trivia[]

  • Eidolon is the only member of Emile's Pokémon Platinum team to be caught in an evolved form.
    • This is because Emile didn't want to catch a Duskull in Route 209 32 episodes earlier because he thought it would be so difficult to use a Duskull. He tried to use Duskull in a personal playthrough of Platinum and thought Duskull's offensive capabilities were bad. It is due to Duskull having Defenses as it's only good stat and mediocre everywhere.
      • In addition, Emile stated that he wanted to use Duskull in Emerald and XD Gale of Darkness, but had the same results of being too difficult to use effectively.
  • Eidolon is the Emile's second Pokémon that evolved directly after being caught, the first being Vanity.
  • Eidolon is Emile's second Ghost-type team member, the first one being Affection from Pokémon Colosseum.
    • Coincidentally, Misdreavus and Dusclops are pure Ghost types who would get an evolution in a later game. Both such evolutions came in Generation IV among a slew of new evolutions (two of them new additions to the Eeveelution family).
  • Eidolon is Emile's first Pokemon to evolve through trading.
    • Although, as of Gen V, Milotic could evolve through trading (while holding a Prism Scale).
  • Due to Emile having talked about the Multiplayer features except for Trading, many people thought Emile would catch an Electabuzz in Route 222 as his 6th Team member, until unexpectedly, he chose a Dusclops.
    • Chugga had also stated that he likes Electivire because of its stats but in terms of appearance, it looks "horrible". He would end up later using the line in his playthrough of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, however.
  • Eidolon is Emile's second Pokémon to be caught very late in the game, the other being Volvagia in Pokémon Crystal, which was obtained after acquiring all 8 badges of Johto.
  • Eidolon is Emile's first Pokémon obtained in a former aftergame area, as in Diamond/Pearl, Sendoff Spring wasn't accessible until the aftergame.
  • He has an Adamant nature.
  • He likes to run, which must be tragic as Dusclops loses its legs when it becomes Dusknoir.
  • He likes spicy food.
  • Emile wanted to use Dusclops many times in the past, including in Pokémon Emerald and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, but it never ended up being on his team. He decided that he would finally use it in Platinum, especially because with the introduction of the Eviolite in Generation 5 (Black and White/Black 2 and White 2), Dusknoir was simply outclassed by Dusclops, which has higher Defense and Special Defense when holding the Item.
  • Emile thinks that Dusclops and Dusknoir should stay with Levitate as their ability, to be "identical" to Gengar's evolutionary line (Gengar doesn't float and has Levitate).
    • Humorously enough, as of Gen. VII, Gengar has since lost Levitate and was replaced with Cursed Body.
  • In Episode 75: Fighting for Survival, the only move tutor move Eidolon could learn was Mud-Slap.
  • Eidolon is Emile's first Pokemon to be named after a race of beings from another game altogether.
    • He almost went back to the same game, Final Fantasy XIII, when nicknaming a Blitzle he caught in his playthrough of Pokemon White, but instead chose to go with Haywire. The suggestion in question that would have sent Emile back to Final Fantasy XIII had he gone with it was 'Eclair', the French word for "lightning". In Japan, 'Eclair' is the real first name of Final Fantasy XIII's protagonist Lightning (the U.S. versions changed her first name to 'Claire' because 'eclair' is also the name of a pastry).
