"Hey, everybody! It's Chuggaaconroy! I've been making Let's Plays here for quite a while now, and really appreciate the support from every one of you! If you'd like updates on upcoming projects, what's going on with progress of new videos, or what conventions I'll be at, I recommend following me on either Facebook or Twitter. As a side note, I don't mind answering questions on my Twitter, but keep in mind that I'm not always online. Also remember that I don't give out my friend code or answer questions about future projects."
―Emile's channel description[src]

Emiliano Rodolfo "Emile" Rosales-Birou (born April 8, 1990), better known by his online alias Chuggaaconroy or Chugga for short, is an American YouTuber, internet personality, and Let's Player who has made online content since 2008. He is known for his high production values, regular update schedule, lighthearted and mostly family-friendly approach to games, his propensity for catchphrases and running gags, his impressive lung capacity, his hilariously bad puns, and overblown reactions to things that happen throughout his playthroughs. Contrasting from other Let’s Play channels, Emile's content focuses on playing games several years after their initial release dates, mainly of titles he has played numerous times before. He reached 1 million subscribers and 760 million views in 2015, and has 1.25 million subscribers and 1.24 billion views as of 2024.

Emile created his YouTube account in 2006, and began his career in 2008 with a Let's Play of EarthBound. For the next fifteen years, he made comprehensive walkthrough Let's Plays on various video games, the majority of which have been released on Nintendo platforms, including titles from the Mother, Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, Kirby, Pokémon and Xenoblade Chronicles video game franchises. Emile commentates in an informative manner in his videos with the purpose of guiding viewers to complete the game themselves. Emile's channel grew in popularity as his gameplay videos were often recommended on YouTube's suggestions. After more than two years of making Let's Plays, Emile became a YouTube Partner in 2010, and became Let’s Play creator on YouTube as a full-time job in 2013.

Alongside his own Let's Plays, Emile is one of the three founding members of the collab channel The Runaway Guys, alongside Johnathan Wheeler (Proton Jon) and Timothy Bishop (NintendoCapriSun), who did 46 Collab Let's Plays and reached 487 thousand subscribers and 397 total video views in 2023. In addition to their videos, The Runaway Guys have also created the "Thrown Controllers" event, a live game show which focuses on video game trivia and challenges. The group has also done gaming live-streams for charity, hosting The Runaway Guys Colosseum stream for the non-profit organization Direct Relief. Emile has also done collaborations with several other YouTube Let's Players, including Stephen Georg and several Runaway Guys guest stars.

Early life

Emiliano Rodolfo Rosales-Birou was born on April 8, 1990 and is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He is of French and Mexican descent. He had four siblings that died as miscarriages, and almost died himself at six months due to an allergic reaction.[1] Emile has mentioned that he was poor as a child.[2][3] When he was younger, his mothers' nickname for him was Mimikins. Emile hated his real name as a kid and wanted to be called Steve, a name which he would later become synonymous with after his Pikmin character of the same name became an internet meme. Emile's mother was featured in one of his videos, "My Mom Guesses the Fighters of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate & More", in 2019.

Emile’s father left his family when Emile was young. In his Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Let’s Play, Emile makes he clear his father was emotionally and physically abusive to Emile with him saying that it caused him to fear for his life when he was very young, and when Emile did finally cut him out of his life his father multiple times tried to gaslight and victim blame Emile to think that he was a terrible person for cutting him out of his life, attempts that failed and only made Emile cutting his father out an easier choice and reaffirms that it was the right decision. In elementary school, there were rumors that Emile's mother played a Game Boy every day she was pregnant with him, to explain how good he was at video games.

Emile was a self-admitted terrible student in school until his junior year of high school, and in eighth grade he once got a twelve percent in a class. When he was nine, Emile didn't brush his teeth for two weeks in an attempt to break a world record; his family weren't able to afford to take him to the dentist since he was eight.[1] Emile studied statistics in college, but it is unknown whether he minored or majored in it. In his teenage years, Emile's first job was at Regal Cinemas. Despite being favored by his boss, and being Employee of the Month twice, his mother forced him to quit.

The first three games Emile played were Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Star Wars Episode I: Racer and Banjo-Kazooie. He later became a fan of his favourite video game franchise, the Pokémon series, which got him into RPGs.[1] Emile has also cited Paper Mario as one of the most important games to his childhood.[4] An EarthBound fan (which prior to the release of Xenoblade Chronicles was his favourite video game), Emile had been a member of the EarthBound community fan-site Starmen.Net as a teenager, where he became friends with fellow content creator Stephen Georg (StephenPlays/StephenVlog) in 2005, and also became friends with Toby Fox. He later befriended music YouTuber Jules Conroy (FamilyJules). In a Wired interview from 2013, Emile noted that he would likely end his Let's Play career sometime before he turned 30, partially due to wanting to pursue a career as a professional video editor at the time, and also out of worry that his popularity would fade with age.

Emile created his YouTube account on July 26, 2006 under the alias of "Chuggaaconroy". Originating from the chugging sound of a running train, Emile got the name from a random name generator on a Cartoon Planet website; his username was originally "Chugga A. Conroy" before he changed it to "Chuggaaconroy".[5] In 2007, just as the Let's Play format was getting popular, Emile found he really enjoyed watching videos of Ninja Gaiden and Kaizo Mario World by Jonathan Wheeler (Proton Jon), with Emile later citing Jon as his biggest inspiration for making videos. On March 16, 2008, Emile uploaded his first video, a handheld recorded video of a Super Smash Bros. Brawl replay, entitled "Super Smash Bros. Brawl Boss Very Hard Clear".

Emile in the 2000s

On March 26, 2008, Emile began his first Let's Play; EarthBound. He started out doing exclusively RPGs such as EarthBound, Mother 1, Paper Mario, Mother 3, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, but beginning with Super Mario Sunshine, he started doing other genres as well, such as platformers. Emile's Let's Play series of Super Mario Sunshine became by far the most popular of his Let's Plays and helped boost Emile's popularity, alongside several other Let's Plays he released around this time, including his Let's Plays of Pokémon FireRed and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Around this time Emile became affiliated with Bulbapedia and Zelda Universe.

Emile profile

Emile in 2013

Emile's channel further grew in popularity as his gameplay videos were often recommended on YouTube's suggestions. Back when video replies were allowed on YouTube, he had a lot of fan interactions then when challenging someone in-video to do certain gameplay content a certain way or better. Many of his earlier videos seem to lack much of his trademark enthusiasm—he's much quieter and speaks in a much less high-pitched, more deadpan voice. In earlier Let's Plays, Emile tended to mash through and talk over story content (dialogue, cutscenes, etc.) while being generally dismissive of what was going on. Emile has cited the 11 minute time limit that YouTube had at the time as the reason for this.

Emile 2021

Emile in a 2021 vlog

In 2010, after more than two years at making Let's Plays, Emile became a YouTube Partner, which was unprecedented among Let's Players at the time (multiple others have since become partners), due to the legal "gray area" that showing game footage entails. In July of 2010, Emile was suspended under false copyright claims weeks after fellow Let's Player Timothy Bishop (NintendoCapriSun) also had his account suspended for the same reason.[6] A month later, Emile had his account restored, as did Tim.[7] Let's Plays he released around this time include Pokémon Crystal, Ōkami, Super Luigi Galaxy, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin 2, and Super Paper Mario, while Ōkamiden was the first Let's Play to feature his iconic Cc logo. After he became a YouTube Partner and could upload longer videos, Emile started reading through dialogue completely, and actually makes an effort to give characters in the games good voices.

In 2013, Emile became a Let’s Play creator on YouTube as a full-time job[8], and has since continued making Let's Plays including Xenoblade Chronicles, Splatoon, Pikmin 3, Pokémon Black & White, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Splatoon 2 and Pokémon Black 2 & White 2. He also made two redux Let's Plays, EarthBound in 2018 and Paper Mario in 2023, which contain more background informing than the original Let's Plays. For his channel's tenth anniversary, Emile made a two-hour long video titled "Creating a Let's Play: What You've Taught Me", where he goes over his process for making let's plays.[4] Some of Emile's most popular videos include “Super Mario Sunshine – Episode 1”, which has more than eight million views, then “Super Mario 64 DS – Finale”, with more than six million views, and “Super Mario Sunshine – Episode 10”, which has been viewed more than 5.5 million times, among numerous other videos that steadily increased his popularity. Emile reached 1 million subscribers and 760 million views in 2015, and has 1.25 million subscribers and 1.24 billion views as of 2024.

The Runaway Guys

"When making a brand new collaborative Let's Play channel, a lot of things need to be done. First of all, you've got to be sure you pick a first game that's sure to bring out the frustration in everybody! The next thing is to make sure that your recording equipment can take the loudness associated with such frustration! Next, you have to think of a clever name for the whole channel."
―Emile in the video "Introducing... TheRunawayGuys!"[src]

Chuggaaconroy (middle) with Proton Jon (left) and NintendoCapriSun (right)

Emile is a founding member of The Runaway Guys, a collab channel with Johnathan Wheeler (Proton Jon) and Timothy Bishop (NintendoCapriSun). The idea for the channel came from Emile and Jon wanting to do collaborative projects, with Tim joining as he was a mutual friend of theirs. Emile was in charge of maintaining the channel, although Jon made posts and comments for the channel as well. For the first two years, updates usually only occurred every Saturday, but this was changed to Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday following an announcement on February 8, 2013. Videos for Mario Party games (starting with the third) and Fortune Street were also posted daily (each board beginning on Saturday and continuing every day until its end).

The first of the main three Runaway Guys, Emile is usually the best or at least better players of whatever game the group is playing. He is the loudest and most energetic of the three main guys. He also tries to annoy Jon as much as possible and allow for situations where the viewers can laugh at the group's collective suffering. In the Mario Parties (up to Mario Party 4), he played Donkey Kong. In Mario Party 5, he switched to Daisy. In Mario Party 7, he switched again to Toad. In Super Smash Bros, he played Ness. In Mario Kart 64, he played Wario. In the New Super Mario Bros. series, he played Mario, but switched to Yellow Toad in New Super Luigi U. In Kirby's Return to Dreamland, he played Kirby. In Fortune Street, he played Bowser Jr. for the first three boards, then switched back to Donkey Kong starting from Slimenia. In the Tournament Arc of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, he played Lucas. In Mario Power Tennis, he played Bowser Jr. In Mario Kart: Double Dash, he played Toad on Team Streetpassers with MasaeAnela. In the Rayman series, he played Rayman. In Castle Crashers, he played Red Knight. In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, he played Red Link. In Secret of Mana he played the Boy. In 100% Orange Juice!, initially he played as QP, but later switched to Sumik.

Their first Let's Play premiered on February 5, 2011. The three of them were the only ones participating, but many of their later videos featured additional players. From the creation of the channel in 2011 to it going on indefinite hiatus in 2024, 46 main collab Let's Plays were produced, along with five side collab Let's Plays and six tournament Let's Plays. Along with their official long-running Let's Plays, they did one-shot filler Let's Plays (labeled "The Runaway Gaiden"), tournaments featuring multitudes of guest players, and side collab projects that they gradually update and use as filler between regular projects. Their videos have more than 375 million views – some of the most popular include “New Super Mario Bros. Wii- Episode 1”, with 12 million views, then “New Super Mario Bros. Wii- Episode 16”, which has been viewed 10 million times, and “Super Smash Bros. Brawl- Episode 1”, which has just over 4.5 million views.

The idea for the Banjo-Kazooie Let's Play came from Emile writing the game off and not playing it for twenty years, which he discusses in the first episode of the LP. After his cousins gave him a final boss preview, Emile was excited to play the game, but did what he's mentioned his young self doing before and didn't read the opening text properly. This led to him pressing A to try and talk to Bottles at his molehills to no avail, spending two whole hours scouring Spiral Mountain for the "correct" molehill before just giving up. The next day, he opted to skip the tutorial and head straight to the top of the mountain, only to mistake Gruntilda's Lair for the final level and retreat to search Spiral Mountain for the entrance to another level. After another fruitless two hours of searching high and low, he gave up and chose Save & Quit from the menu. This triggers the game over sequence, which Emile mistook for permanently tainting his save file, prompting a complete rage quit. After hearing this, Jon points out that Emile somehow spent four hours in-game not thinking to try the B button. Emile defends himself by claiming it was the third game he ever played, which Jon counters by pointing out the B button was designed to be inviting and encourage players to try pushing it.

Emile in 2023

One of Emile's most famous moments as a member of TRG is the Chugga's Lost Innocence moment from a live-stream of Mario Party 6 by Jon, in which Emile says "Should we do Daisy on hard?" and "I'm inside Daisy's heart-shaped box!", with Emile revealing that he has absolutely no idea what the latter means which led to a humorous exchange where Jon asked "What would a heart-shaped-box be, Emile!?" and Emile replied "I dunno, a box of chocolate on Valentines' Day?". It takes a full minute and Jon telling him point-blank before Emile realizes what it means. A few days after the stream, Jon posted that Reese came over to give Emile a book about the birds and the bees. Jon also included a picture of Emile holding the book.

On occasion at various conventions, the Runaway Guys have their own panel, called Thrown Controllers, a live game show which focuses on video game trivia and challenges. The event is broadcast on numerous gaming conventions such as PAX, Magfest and Momocon. In its debut at PAX East 2012, two teams took turns answering questions and playing video game challenges, either against each other, solo, or against members of the audience. At PAX Prime 2012, they retooled the game into a single-person quiz show with challenges, similar to the initial concept except for one person at a time, and this is how it has been done since. Many prizes are awarded at these panels, ranging from character pins from Fangamer to (as a grand prize) an actual video game console, such as a Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, or Nintendo Switch.

In May of 2018, The Runaway Guys Colosseum / Thrown Controllers Colosseum was live streamed as a weekend long event to raise money for Direct Relief. This was followed up in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. All of them once again in benefit of Direct Relief. With the combined efforts of the community, event staff, and the performers, a total over $1,000,000 was raised by 2023. Whenever a milestone donation was reached, all of the members including Emile did Hiker Dances. The original event in 2018 involved a segment where Emile, Tim, Masae and Josh played Thrown Controllers; during Emile's run, he got asked to spend 60 seconds naming things he likes about a game he famously hates; Paper Mario; Sticker Star. Like the other members, Emile made bumpers for the events, in which he starred alongside Masae and Tim. His most notable bumper is Chugga Makes Cookies, a bumper he did with Masae for the 2021 event that became one of the most popular bumpers in the history of colosseum and has been parodied by other members in subsequent events.

Collaborations and Guest Appearances

Emile at a Speed Gamers event

Emile at a Speed Gamers event

Emile has collaborated with quite a few other YouTubers, including several guest stars of The Runaway Guys on their various Let's Plays. He has also made several guest appearances, most notably by making regular appearances on Stephen Georg's vlog channel. Emile was also well known for his work with The Speed Gamers, and appeared live at their home base for two separate marathons.

While he worked with The Speed Gamers, Emile did speed-runs of games, such as EarthBound and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for marathons. He helped commentate a few times, and also had an account on the The Speed Gamers forums. He appeared on-camera during the Winter 2009 Pokémon Marathon, wearing a silver mask concealing his face. He helped out in the Mother/EarthBound marathon with The Speed Gamers, by doing a speed run of EarthBound, and attempting to break the world record. Due to unfortunate circumstances, he did not accomplish his goal. He attended the Mario Marathon on June 11, 2010 for The Speed Gamers, to raise money for ACT Today, where he took off his mask and showed his face to the public for the first time.

Some time after revealing (via Twitter) that he is a fan of the game commentary group BrainScratch Commentaries, Emile met up with the quartet of un-professional commentators to do matches of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and co-commentating Super Mario Galaxy. Some even guest starred on his own projects, with SomeCallMeJohnny joining him for the ScareScraper, and Ted being part of the scrapped Melee tournament on The Runaway Guys.

Stephen and Emile

Stephen and Emile

Emile made regular appearances on Stephen Georg's channel, and they appeared in each other's videos regularly. Emile helped to push viewers to StephenVlog by featuring Stephen on his channel (for Pikmin 2 Challenge Mode) and appearing in the vlogs. He also made several appearances on StephenPlays, such as the Mario Party Boards and Mario Party series, You're In The Movies, the Splatoon First20, and in the last episode of Pokémon LeafGreen. He also gave them a multitude of gifts, including a 3DS, an Xbox One, a Wii U, two Nintendo Switches, and one of the rarest GameCube game. On the other hand, Stephen and Mallory helped Emile by designing his iconic Cc logo and made a new one for each LP starting with his Ōkamiden Let's Play in 2012, and continued to make graphics for his Let's Play videos until 2022. Starting from 2013 and continuing until 2020, Stephen and Mal continued to visit Emile every year in either December or January to spend time with each other and exchange presents. Emile and Stephen did several collaborations, including a two-part Pokémon Quiz ("Name That Pokémon!" with Chuggaaconroy and "Name That Pokémon!" PART 2! with Chuggaaconroy).

Emile and Masae

Emile and Masae

From 2014 to 2021, Emile did several collaborations with fellow Let's Player and ex-girlfriend MasaeAnela, on both their channels and also on The Runaway Guys and Stephen's vlogs. The Let's Plays they collaborated on include Pikmin 3, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Fortune Street, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Party 2, Splatoon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome Amiibo, Pokémon Black & White, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Splatoon 2. From Pokémon Emerald to Pokémon Black & White, Masae created artwork for Emile's Pokémon Let's Plays, typically for his bios of Legendary Pokémon.

Tama and Emile

Tama Hero and Emile

Emile collaborated with Pokémon YouTuber Marriland on the now unlisted series Chugga & Marriland In DisastORAS!!. He collaborated with another Pokémon YouTuber Tama Hero on several projects on both their channels. In 2008-09, Emile did a podcast with Sonic Dude (now AntDude on YouTube) called the Warpzone. Emile collaborated with several other YouTubers and Let's Players in his Pikmin 3 Mission Mode series, including Stephen Georg, Proton Jon, NintendoCapriSun, Lucahjin, ProJared, Jirard The Completionist, Yoshiller and MasaeAnela. He collaborated with Pokémon YouTuber Marriland on the now unlisted series Chugga & Marriland In DisastORAS!!.

Speedrun Survivor Contestants

Emile with Partyarlie, Ajentvee, and Bryand

From 2022 to 2023, Emile and Tim did reactions to Nintendo Directs which were uploaded to Tim's channel. These videos contained their reactions to several game announcements including Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pikmin 4, Super Mario Wonder, the Super Mario RPG remaster and the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remaster. Of these, the reaction to The Thousand-Year Door remaster was perhaps the most notable due to Emile's overjoyed reaction at Mario RPGs not being "fucking shit anymore", referring to his dislike of the modern Paper Mario games (Paper Mario: Sticker Star in particular). Emile uploaded this reaction to his own channel under the title "The Thousand-Year Door Reaction".

In July 2022, Emile joined fellow Pokémon streamers Partyarlie, Ajentvee, and Bryand as contestants on The4thGenGamer's Speedrun Survivor series. He was coached by PulseEffect and they ultimately won the challenge. Their complete run was not shown in the Speedrun Survivor series itself, as The4thGenGamer announced after the seventh episode that the series in its intended form would be cancelled, but later released a condensed version of the series in one video, which revealed that Emile and PulseEffect won the challenge. Like the other contestants and coachers, Emile was interviewed throughout the series on several occasions; his complete interviews were later released on The4thGenGamer's Patreon account. PulseEffect later released a video of his and Emile's run.

Personal life

"My personal opinion is that one should have a good time making every video, because a video is there for people to watch for years to come and shouldn't just be a daily quota for the sake of posting something right in the moment."
―Emile on making videos

Emile has mentioned in videos that he struggled with family and financial issues during his childhood, as well as with autism. For a short period of time, he believed he was misdiagnosed. However, in his EarthBound remake series he later backed down from that statement, having no evidence to disprove it.[9][10] As of 2024, Emile resides in Scotland; he previously lived in Atlanta, Georgia from 2019 to 2023. He lived in a rented apartment for years before he owned his first house in 2015.

Emile with his cat, Kirby

Emile had several pets, including four cats named Kirby, Teddy, Jak and Loki, and a rabbit named Pippy. Of these pets, Kirby was his longest lived and was around for most of his career.[11][12][13][14] Kirby, Teddy and Pippy appeared regularly in his videos, while Jak was mentioned in the video "Fifty Facts About Chuggaaconroy-Tag Video" and Loki was mentioned in a tweet Emile made in 2023.

In his first few years, Emile never showed his face, except for one video he posted about wanting to see EarthBound on Virtual Console, when he was uploading his first playthrough of EarthBound, although he took it down shortly after and kept his face a mystery for newer subscribers. But he eventually subverted this after his appearance on The Speed Gamers. Nowadays, while he still acts shy while on camera, he's no longer afraid to show his face.

In his fifth anniversary video, Emile reveals that he personally thinks his early Lets Plays suck, mainly because he was so afraid to be himself back then. The fact that he was limited to only ten minute videos at the time forced Emile to rush through games, in stark contrast to the more in-depth playthroughs that attempt to show off everything they had to offer that he's since become known for. The playlist description for his Mother LP explicitly singles it out as his least favorite LP.

In his day-to-day life, Emile tends to follow a pretty straightforward and rigid schedule. He goes to the gym on a frequent basis to psyche himself up for recording and even hired a personal trainer, he neatly organizes his video game and merchandise collections, he tends to his pets at precise times (prior to their passing), and he tends to frequent the same restaurants over and over again (notably Applebee's and Buffalo Wild Wings). Emile does spice things up with his eccentric personality, but as stated in his Animal Crossing: New Leaf LP on his birthday, this routine makes him feel happy and accomplished.

One of Emile's hobbies besides making videos is collecting Pokémon cards. Having begun collecting since 1998, Emile has built up quite an impressive collection of them, having over 400 cards. He stores his cards in custom binders designed by Stephen, with a gold star on the spine meaning one of every card, and diamond stars meaning every version of every card. In 2020, Emile asked if his fans would be interested in occasional videos about card collecting tips or his stories about it, and got a lot of requests to do it. This resulted in the three-part series Discardables.[15]

Aside from YouTube, Emile is active on Facebook and Twitter. He has more than 108k Facebook fans and more than 258k Twitter followers. On Twitter, he regularly talks about video games and interacts with his followers. In addition, he uploads and advertises channel-related content using his presence. Using his influence, he also promotes sponsors and products.

Tim with Emile

Emile and Timothy Bishop (NintendoCapriSun) have been housemates since 2021

Since 2021, Emile has been housemates with Timothy Bishop (NintendoCapriSun) in Georgia. Whenever he visited Emile in the past, Tim typically stayed in a messy spare room where Emile keeps old consoles and other classic stuff. Tim visited Emile for a couple weeks in 2021, because he had just found out that Kirby (his cat) had kidney failure and he thought the cat only had a few weeks left, and he wanted to be there for Emile for that. In the end, Kirby lived almost a whole another year. At the time he moved into Emile's house, Tim was going through some health problems, and when Emile saw what a state Tim was in, he let him live in his house and urged Tim to a clinic and he took him to the gym, which led to Tim's health greatly improving. Emile moved out of the house in 2024 to stay with his girlfriend overseas, but revealed to Tim that he would still pay his share of the bills. During the Chuggaaconroy Misconduct Allegations, Tim looked out for Emile everyday, made sure he was safe from hurting himself, and overall was a good friend. Emile mentioned Tim in his full statement, in which he referred to Tim as his best friend and revealed that he handled so many decisions in all of this for him when Emile was not well enough to make them for himself, such as cooking for him every day when Emile wasn’t allowed near the knives. Emile thinks he really saved him, and asked for people to please support Tim with all they can.

Relationships

On an EarthBound-centric podcast, Emile told the story about his first girlfriend, back in high school. She was a huge EarthBound fan, but she wasn't the nicest person, and the relationship turned sour. Emile's best friend at the time decided to try to find out what was going on, and he found out the only reason she was dating Emile was to impress Toby Fox.

Masae and Emile

Emile was in a relationship with MasaeAnela for 10 years

From 2011 to 2021, Emile was in a relationship with MasaeAnela. They dated for 10 years and we were engaged to be married; but this fell apart about three years ago. In every video they were together in, Emile was her boyfriend and their friends all knew about it. Emile and Masae both wanted their private lives to be hidden at the beginning. After the engagement, Emile wanted to share it, but Masae stayed firm that it remained private. She was never clear to him as to why, but Emile respected her wishes until it was necessary to clear this up. They loved each other, and Emile thought the world of her, but they had a difficult breakup. Losing her was the hardest thing Emile has ever gone through and Emile regretted how emotional he got about it and the way he handled it. That is what happened between us. They would both like to never hear about one another again and Emile sympathizes with her getting bombarded about his situation after a breakup. The feelings she expressed go both ways and Emile doesn't wish to be associated with her going forward in any capacity either. As for her video cameo after the breakup, Emile did that because he believed they were still friends and just taking a break from each other, but once she told him she didn’t want them, Emile stopped. Emile has strong feelings about the way it was said, but Emile is asking nicely to not run away with speculation about her, because Emile knows what that feels like. And if his fans felt bad for enjoying their old videos, don’t. Emile still looks back on them fondly, and personally assures that they were happy and having fun in them. The time for that is just over.

On January 24th, 2024, Masae revealed that Emile had repeatedly made her feel uncomfortable and pushed boundaries with her, despite being told again and again to stop. She began her statement by revealing she had not associated with Emile for years and that they are no longer friends, and that any cameo (Splatoon 2, recorded long before their falling out) or interaction/mention (The Runaway Guys Colosseum Twitch chat) was posted and done without her consent after she had made it clear that she did not want to be associated.[16][17] Masae said that she is uncomfortable with the way Emile has talked to/about her in the past, which has been a huge point of distress for her, and combined with the way he’s spoken to/about others (particularly women) in private and public, Masae believes this is concerning and does not want to associate with that behavior.[18] She also said that Emile has "historically been one to push boundaries", and that being faced with a following as large as his was absolutely harrowing for her. Because of this, she thought that establishing her own personal boundaries carried an inherent risk, so for a long time, Masae thought not "rocking the boat" felt like the safer option.[19] Masae said that she had privately received several apologies from Emile over the years that she believes have rung hollow with his actions. She said that she is tired of hearing it, has no more chances to give, and is exhausted from pretending/politely dodging topics when he is brought up.[20] She also revealed that, for her own comfort and safety, she will not be attending events that Emile will be at unless it is a public space where she is able to avoid him, such as large-scale conventions. She also revealed that she has not seen Emile in years, and has no intention to start again now.[21] Masae said that she holds absolutely no ill will and does not fault those who have unknowingly asked her questions about Emile, either at MAGfest, in private, or in chat/comments, but said that moving forward, she will not be reciprocating discussion about Emile further, in any capacity.[22] She said that she made this statement because she no longer wanted to quietly tolerate people speaking for her, assuming the wrong things, or incorrectly associating her and Emile as friends/collaborators. Masae concluded her statement by saying that to those who have also been hurt, she empathizes with them and wishes them all strength.[23]

On April 18th, 2024, Masae posted a statement following the release of Emile's full statement. Masae confirmed that she and Emile were engaged and that keeping it private was a mutual decision, especially through the first several years. After that, when Emile expressed interest in becoming public, Masae was hesitant because of how much social pressure was already put on their relationship. He was respectful of that, and they proceeded with the status quo. They do not condone the harassment of any party, and the omission was an effort to prevent speculation about their now very separate personal lives. Ultimately it was a personal matter and a joint decision between two adults. Masae reiterated that her objective with her previous post was just to be left alone, and that has not changed. She was being asked a lot of invasive questions with increasing frequency, as she is sure Emile has as well. They do not want to be associated, they do not want to hear of each other moving forward - a mutual sentiment as their paths are now completely separate and they want to move on with their lives. Although she can not be a part of his journey, Masae wished Emile luck on his healing and his path forward.[24] Emile responded to Masae's statement about their past relationship by quote retweeting it, in which he wished her the best, saying "I want everyone to know there is no ill will on my side either. You said what you thought was necessary to get people to leave you alone. It was other people who made assumptions, that was why I needed to say what I said. I wish you the best life without me in it, you deserve it. You are a wonderful human being who has done so much for me and I want you to succeed and come back from this."[25][26]

In a Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 playthrough episode on August 2023, Emile mentioned that he was in a relationship and had been playing the game with his girlfriend off-screen, albeit her identity was not revealed.[27] She was later revealed to be from overseas, so by pure happenstance, Emile managed to outdo Proton Jon's international relationship with Lucahjin by having a transatlantic one. She is still dating Emile and has helped him overcome the pain of Kirby's passing. Emile has kept the identity of his girlfriend unknown out of respect for her privacy.

Emile's first vlog appearance

Emile in a 2011 vlog

Emile's Let's Play videos have been received positively, and has been given content praise for their informative nature, as while watching one of his series of playthroughs, viewers can doubtlessly come away having learned something new about the game, even if they knew a lot about it already. He has also appeared in various lists of the best gaming YouTube channels. In March 2023, on the 15th anniversary of Emile's first Let's Play video being uploaded, the YouTubeGaming Twitter page posted a tweet referencing the occasion, referring to Emile as a "now let's play legend."

Emile has shown himself to be incredibly generous. For example, he once gave away 24 copies of Xenoblade Chronicles to his friends for Christmas in 2013 and he gave away 30 copies of the game for his viewers for a contest in his Xenoblade LP including four factory sealed ones. This generosity is also shown in a few StephenVlogs videos, where the many gifts he has given to Stephen and Mal are shown to their viewers.

Commentary and video style

As a Let's Player, Emile is known for his high production values, regular update schedule, lighthearted and mostly family-friendly approach to games, his propensity for catchphrases and running gags, his impressive lung capacity, his hilariously bad puns, and overblown reactions to things that happen throughout his playthroughs.

Contrasting from other Let’s Play channels, Emile's content focuses on playing games several years after their initial release dates, mainly of titles he has played numerous times before. Every game he has LP'ed to date has been available on Nintendo's systems; with the exception of Ōkami, Ōkamiden, Sonic Colors, and Chrono Trigger, they've all been Nintendo first-party titles. He has played at least one game on every major Nintendo home console and handheld, including six on his personal favorite, the Nintendo GameCube.

Emile goes silent for non-dialogue moments in cutscenes with minimal aside commentary, giving the story focus in the game's context. Emile has also sometimes gone silent during memorable dialogue moments. For example, in Episode 49 of his Super Paper Mario Let's Play, Emile goes silent during the scene where Luvbi is told by her parents that she is the Pure Heart.[28]

With the exception of EarthBound, Mother 1 and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, most of Emile's Let's Plays from 2008 to 2012 had no episode titles. Starting with Ōkamiden and Pokémon Colosseum, Emile would start giving his episodes titles again, partially as a way to add charm to the videos, and as a way to make more puns.

The Hiker Dance

In his Let's Plays, Emile attempts to show every aspect of each individual game he plays to 100% completion, including every item, boss battle, sidequest, and Easter egg possible. Emile commentates in an informative manner in his videos with the purpose of guiding viewers to complete the game themselves. For example, in his Pokémon Emerald Let's Play he discusses various strategies and viable techniques to ensure optimal success in the game, in his redux EarthBound Let's Play he showcases a particular glitch in the game involving the Tent located in Threed, and in his redux Paper Mario Let's Play he showcases alternate methods of playing the game including Danger Mario, and also shows what every badge ability does in battle at least once. All of his Pokémon Let's Plays feature bios for all the Pokémon encountered in the games, as well as bios for the gym fights. In this regard, his gameplay videos function as informative walkthroughs with the premise of guiding players through each aspect of the specific game he plays.

In spite of their informative nature, Emile’s Let's Play videos often employ humorous moments in his gameplay, such as the occasional failure or death in a level and subsequent backtracking. His videos have also been described as nostalgic and reflective, as he often tells personal anecdotes of his experiences with the games he plays.

His Let's Plays have inspired several memes, including Steve the Trooper and the 98 Blue Pikmin freakout from his Pikmin LP, the Waterwraith freakout from his Pikmin 2 LP, Bowser's Arms from his Super Paper Mario LP, the Hiker Dance from his Pokémon Black & White LP, his excitement over Chuck Quizmo from his redux Paper Mario LP, and the Backpacker Dance from his Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 LP. His Let's Plays also contain several recurring gags, including the Epic No.

Copyright issues

Main article: Chuggaaconroy Copyright Issues

In July 2010, Emile and Tim were suspended under false copyright claims, though both their accounts were later restored weeks later.[29] The temporary suspension led to Emile's channel getting further attention after it was reported on multiple websites including Zelda Universe and Bulbapedia, ironically doing him more good than harm in the end.

In June 2021, five episodes of the EarthBound redux Let's Play made by Emile got blocked by the Japanese division of Sony Music because of the game's soundtrack, which they own the distribution rights to.[30][31][32][33] Emile lost his redux EarthBound Let's Plays’ ad revenue and five of his videos from the redux LP, including the 31st episode, were removed.[34][35] Emile had filed requests to get the videos restored, and they were restored a week later on July 3rd 2021 after Jirard The Completionist helped Emile get in touch with some people who could deal with the problem.[36]

Emile was originally planning on covering the Celebi event during his LP of Pokémon Crystal. However, Emile eventually learned that the artist he hired to make the drawings for the Legendary Pokémon in the series was actually engaging in art theft. This led to Emile scrapping the idea for the video entirely, as he couldn't verify if the art made for Celebi was also plagiarized and didn't want to risk anything.

Nintendo had initially targeted and content ID-claimed several of Emile's videos due to them containing footage of their games, causing his ad revenue to temporarily decrease, but later ceased doing so. A vague legal issue he was not permitted to disclose prevented the Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga LP from being released on time, forcing it to take over a month past its scheduled release.

Misconduct allegations

Main article: Chuggaaconroy Misconduct Allegations

In January 2024, multiple misconduct allegations emerged against Emile. These allegations began when Lady Emily said that Emile had persistently attempted to initiate erotic foot fetish roleplay with her despite her disinterest.[37] [38] While Emile did make a full apology to Emily several days later[39] [40][41][42][43], these initial allegations only gained more traction when Emile's ex-girlfriend MasaeAnela came forward with the revelation that Emile had repeatedly made her feel uncomfortable and pushed boundaries with her.[44] [45] This was followed by evidence of sexual online chat with a 15-year-old fan named Lawly when he was 19.[46] [47]

In April 2024, Emile made his full response, in which he revealed that he and Masae had dated for 10 years and were engaged prior to having a rough breakup, that Emily never communicated with him that he'd said anything that made her uncomfortable, and that Lawly's goal was to manipulate him into having sex with her and that she had sent a sexually explicit gift to his house.[48] However, Emile admitted that he made mistakes and pushed boundaries, and revealed that he would not repeat this behaviour again. This whole experience was so harmful to Emile's health, he's not sure that he even wants this job any more. Emile doesn't know if the life he would have if he started making videos again would be anything he would like.[49]

Emile's Initial Responses

Emile's initial responses

Emile's initial responses

On the night of January 16th, 2024, Emile responded to Emily's allegations, writing, "Hey, I want to say I’m sorry to Emily and to you, our community. I apologize for my mistake of overstepping the boundaries of our friendship and causing her to hurt in the process. This will not happen again." He followed this with a comment, writing, "I’d rather have time to collect my thoughts than react immediately, and ask that you not contact my friends about this. I will talk more about this in a few days." The Emily allegations caused Emile to not only make this brief statement on Twitter, but to also pull out of Magfest (with his role at Thrown Controllers being fulfilled by Tom Fawkes) so he could make a better apology later.

Emile's Apology

Emile's full statement

On January 22nd, 2024. Emile posted his full response on his Facebook account. In his response, Emile asked first of anyone who thinks it’s helping to insult Emily on his behalf: please don’t send any further negativity her way, saying that Emily “should be treated with respect.” Emile said that he hurt Emily with his actions, and that “these are choices I made myself, and I don’t think it’s relevant how I “felt” or what my intentions were to justify my actions. I just want to say the end result is that I really hurt you and made you feel uncomfortable. I hate that anyone made you feel that way, and I wish you the best.” Emile revealed that it took longer than it should have to take the hint that something was wrong when Emily cut contact with him, and said he shouldn’t have assumed Emily was just busy with traveling and that things were fine. Emile only began putting it together when the silence continued. He pestered Emily for too long and he apologized for doing so.

When Emily communicated this to Emile privately a few months ago, Emile apologized to her directly and promised that he would never repeat this kind of behavior again with anyone else. Once she shared how Emile made you feel, it was a huge wake-up call and he immediately sought professional help through therapy. Emile worked in the months ever since then to do what Emily wished for him: learn and be better.

Emile revealed that he has done and said similar things in years past with other people. He is still friends with some of them, while Emile has fallen out of contact with others. If anyone was uncomfortable with how Emile behaved, this apology is for them as well. No matter his intentions, Emile is sorry the impact was harmful, and said he will not reach out to them himself again.

Emile briefly cleared up speculation about his relationship. He loves his girlfriend, she was aware that this conversation took place, consented to it, and saw what was posted. It crossed no lines set between us at the start of our relationship and we are still together. Emile trusts her to tell him if he does something to upset her. Emile thanked her for being with him through this and apologized for the immense amount of stress my situation caused her, because that wasn’t fair to her.

Separately from above, Emile also discussed online discussion about other previous comments he’d made about shoes over the years, saying that “Fitness and footwear are among my hobbies and not strictly fueled by anything more.” Emile admitted to getting passionate about his interests, and now understands how this can come across and how it could negatively affect others.

One last time, Emile recognizes he has hurt people and needs to be held accountable for it. Emile respects anyone who feels disappointed or hurt. Emile decided around the time of the incident that he would never do this again and learn from it, but would understand if you didn’t wish to support him any longer.[50]

Emile's Full Response

Emile's Full Response

Emile's full response

On April 16th, 2024, Emile released his full response to all the allegations on a Google Doc titled "Hey, Everybody", containing his full statement on Twitter about Emily, Masae, Lawly, back when he was 19, his time in the mental ward, and how he is now along with some screencaps of his document for his followers to read. Emile revealed that he and Masae had dated for 10 years and were engaged prior to having a rough breakup, that Emily never communicated with him that he'd said anything that made her uncomfortable, and that Lawly's goal was to manipulate him into having sex with her and that she had sent a sexually explicit gift to his house. However, Emile admitted that he made mistakes and pushed boundaries, and revealed that he would not repeat this behaviour again. This whole experience was so harmful to Emile's health, he's not sure that he even wants this job any more. This whole experience was so harmful to Emile's health, he's not sure that he even wants this job any more. Emile doesn't know if the life he would have if he started making videos again would be anything he would like.[51]

It has been a long time since Emile last shared anything with his audience, but Emile now feels ready to give an update on how he has been doing, and clear up speculation on some incidents that have been brought up since his last message. Whenever something blows up online, people make a lot of incorrect assumptions based on not knowing the full story, and often assume the worst possible context. Emile would like to start by clearing up these misconceptions. Emile hasn't wanted to reveal information about others, but Emile thinks at this point it’s best that everything is out in the open. Emile has removed irrelevant personal information as Emile only wants to say as much as he needs to in order to set the record straight but requests his fans to please do not bother anybody Emile names here as he does not want others to experience what he went through. Emile has already asked that people not harass his accusers and was disappointed to see this ignored or not respected; Emile truly doesn't want anybody to be attacked over this.[52]

Regarding Masae

GLTsPeGWYAAewvL-1

Masae and Emile dated for 10 years and we were engaged to be married; It fell apart about three years ago now. In every video they were seen together in, Emile was her boyfriend and their friends all knew about it. Emile’s audience is probably wondering how this stayed a secret for so long.

That is what happened between them. They would both like to never hear about one another again and Emile sympathizes with her getting bombarded about his situation after a breakup. The feelings she expressed go both ways and Emile doesn't wish to be associated with her going forward in any capacity either. As for her video cameo after the breakup, Emile did that because he believed we were still friends and just taking a break from each other, but once she told him she didn’t want them, Emile stopped. Emile has strong feelings about the way it was said, but Emile is asking nicely to not run away with speculation about her, because Emile knows what that feels like. Emile still looks back on their old videos fondly, and personally assures everyone that they were happy and having fun in them. The time for that is just over.[53]

Regarding AntDude and MissFushiGaming

In 2024, Emile was accused by AntDude of allegedly sending off putting texts to his girlfriend, MissFushiGaming, who alleged that Emile had made her uncomfortable on many occasions.[54][55] Emile did not respond to these allegations in his full statement, as Tim had already shared Emile's side of the story in an podcast interview he did a few weeks prior, and said that he didn't want to draw more attention to them, saying "It seemed like barely anybody was talking about their part of it, and there was already a public record of what happened anyway. I don't want to include any more people than I had to."[56] Tim revealed that that Emile sending off-putting texts to them had all been a complete misunderstanding on their part, and that Emile did not act uncomfortable in that situation.[57]

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Emile and AntDude had planned to do a collaboration together. They planned it out on Discord, and the subject of AntDude's girlfriend, virtual YouTuber MissFushiGaming, came up, with MissFushiGaming planning to hang out with them while they did their collaboration. At some point, AntDude told Emile that MissFushiGaming can't come to hang out with them, and at that point Emile stopped responding. AntDude took this to mean that if Emile stopped responding, that meant he didn't want to do the anymore because she couldn't come. This led into a series of misunderstandings where they thought that Emile had feelings for MissFushiGaming.

Following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns in 2021, eventually Emile, AntDude and MissFushiGaming were at a convention together, so Emile started messaging AntDude about the collaboration, wondering if they could resume their plans to make it. However, AntDude never replied to any of Emile's messages until the convention was over. What Emile started doing from that point was messaging MissFushiGaming because Emile knew that she would actually answer her messages, so if he wanted to get in touch with AntDude, Emile would message her. However, AntDude and MissFushiGaming thought that because Emile was messaging her and not him, that he was into her, which is why they were saying they felt uncomfortable. Emile started going to MissFushiGaming's streams, some of which Tim witnessed as well. One point after Emile's cat Kirby passed away in 2023, Emile watched another of MissFushiGaming's streams where she was raising money for her cat who was sick, and Emile donated to help out with that. MissFushiGaming and AntDude were grateful to Emile for donating because he sympathized with MissFushiGaming as he had lost his own cat.[58]

On one of MissFushiGaming's streams, she started talking about being curious about the science behind kinks and fetishes. After the stream was over, Emile sent MissFushiGaming a link to a page all about it, which was interpreted by MissFushiGaming and AntDude as Emile being into her because he sent her a page about fetishes, despite her saying she was interested in it on stream. At some point, Emile and Tim were talking about moving somewhere, and had different places in mind, including North Carolina, New York, Seattle, the United Kingdom, and Canada. They were going over all these different possibilities, and at some point he started talking to Yoshiller and asked him if he knew anybody who who lives in any of these areas. Yoshiller told Emile that AntDude and MissFushiGaming live in Seattle, so he could ask them what the living is like there. When Emile asked them what it's like in Seattle, AntDude and MissFushiGaming thought he was trying to move there to get with her. These series of misunderstandings led to AntDude and MissFushiGaming saying that Emile made them uncomfortable.

Regarding Lady Emily

GLTslFNWEAAeU4V-1

In 2023, Emily contacted him through a friend who spelled out how their conversations made her feel. Emile was shocked by it, apologized to her, and to some friends Emile had said/done similar things with. It was well-received among the people Emile talked to and Emile would like to say here that he's sorry to anyone who hasn’t heard this from him. Emile hoped to tell everyone on his own terms. This was genuinely the first time this behavior was met so negatively to his face. At the time, Emile was told that this would not go public as long as Emile never did it again (which Emile has not done since). Emile took it to heart and sought professional help immediately.[59]

Emile felt like shit for months and was seeing a therapist about it every week, and by the start of January, Emile felt that he was making some great strides in improving. Emile took Emily’s words seriously and was doing his best to take responsibility, but unfortunately, it all ended up going public anyway. It crushed him inside that despite his efforts, Emily and many others would see him as irredeemable. Emile wants to dispel a few things said about him by Emily. Emile didn’t “ask her for foot pictures constantly.” Emile asked once if Emile could see a picture of her wearing the shoes Emile bought for her, which Emile honestly didn’t realize would make her uncomfortable. He's gone through their logs and could find no evidence of that claim that Emile was “constantly asking” or that it was of her bare feet - Emile doesn’t think this is a fair summary of their chats. His kink doesn’t define every aspect of his life. Emile bought Emily shoes because she told him hers were damaged and needed replacing, then told him it was almost her birthday half an hour later. It was spur of the moment, and Emile just wanted to help out a friend. He's also made jokes about feet and bought shoes for most of his friends throughout his life, even for people like Tim.

GLTv8ClXkAA ct5-1

She would encourage his roleplay and jokes about shoes, and even consented and participated. Emile checked in multiple times to make sure it was really okay and trusted her with a sensitive part of himself so that she wouldn’t feel misled or like Emile had ulterior motives. Emile thinks that’s also why Emile didn’t particularly try to hide this. Emile thought Emile was being dumb with consenting friends, and at worst, that it was a little embarrassing and his kink was probably one reason Emile liked the subject. His partner read through what Emily posted and thought the tone was silly, not over the line of what’s sexual or romantic for me. Emile would trust her opinion on that more than his own. Emile was also evaluated by medical professionals about his shoe talk; their view was that it was a way to feel close to a friend and an escape in times of high stress and tragedy - it would resurface whenever things got particularly bad.[60]

GLTtD0wXwAA9eUr-1

This is the tone of the conversation that led to the roleplay. Emile thinks, honestly, that it reads as "pretty silly from both of us". Emile remembers when this happened; Emile was just playing a video game and laughing to himself when she’d add to it because it was all so out-there and dumb. Emile cackled at her Sticker Star joke. His girlfriend wanted to add that Emily’s decision to include personal information about her was greatly upsetting to her. Emily needlessly published the territory his girlfriend lives in; this was not public knowledge and did nothing to prove any point. In Emily’s screenshots, he's open about having a girlfriend and told her his SO was fine with all of this. Their relationship had no bearing on any of this and never needed to be brought up. Emile also wants to say that he never lied about how this was resolved privately. In his original statement, Emile said "When you communicated this to me privately a few months ago, I apologized to you directly and promised I would never repeat this kind of behavior again with anyone else." Emile worded things that way to protect the friend who mediated, as involving others was something Emile wanted to avoid. Emile promised his friend that he would never repeat this, they discussed it for hours, they told Emily how it went, and then Emile sent Emily an apology.

Emile never claimed they had a conversation about it. Emile said it was communicated privately, which it was. Emile don't think a friend being there contradicts that. Emile doesn't retract any apology about hurting her or pestering her for a reply. Nothing he's said changes that Emile did that. Emile just felt this important context was left out. This is what Emile was working with and why Emile was so comfortable doing this. Emile kept asking if it was okay and kept doing it because she said she enjoyed it. Emile wanted to be open with someone Emile cared about rather than just assume, and gave her his word that Emile wouldn’t go into sexual territory for himself. It still wasn’t a good way to act; Emile just hoped it’s understandable how he could think this way. Due to an autism spectrum disability, Emile struggles with understanding social cues or people’s limits. Emile doesn't hide behind this as a shield from criticism; he's learned to live with it. Emile learned that he couldn’t always trust himself to say the right thing or not take things too far due to his inability to see social situations the same way as other people. Doctors have told him this is what happens with him. To make up for this weakness, Emile learned many years ago to be open with people, relying on permission, asking questions, and requesting others to tell him if something becomes too much. That is what Emile did with Emily, but despite that, she never once communicated that Emile said anything that made her uncomfortable until she was considering going public. Emile was confused when she started ignoring his messages as he doesn't do well with being ignored; it just makes him worry a lot about the other person because Emile does best with open communication. When Emile has nothing to work with, he can’t really understand what someone is thinking, and in this case, Emile thought she liked how it was going. It usually leads to him just wishing each day will be the day Emile gets to hear they’re okay. He's learned now that repeated messages like this can be stressful to others. Emile did everything she wanted him to do once she told him she didn’t like it, and took it into his own hands to get mental help and learn more about his issues. It’s perfectly fine to revoke consent or decide it’s getting to be too much, but this wasn’t told to him; Emile was told the opposite of that. This isn’t a case of, “Emile only listened when Emile got caught.” Emile did listen.[61]

Regarding Lawly

GLTtNYuXoAAb0L7-1

There was a chat log shared from back in 2010 when Emile was 19. About this: he's not a pedophile, and he's not a groomer. Emile was an idiot teenager who made dirty jokes. Emile had no intention of doing anything to this person, quite the opposite in fact. There is two separate things over a decade apart and showing them together. When Emile was a teenager, Emile said lots of dumb things he shouldn’t have. He's 34 years old now and can’t stand by anything he may have typed that long ago. Emile didn't think anyone could. What Emile can do is tell people his intentions.[62]

GLTtuC5XIAEsrYn-1

To give an idea of how long ago that chat was: When Emile was 19, TRG didn’t exist, Emile had never appeared at a single convention, Emile hadn’t started college, Emile still lived at home, Emile made videos as a hobby/wasn’t professional, and Emile was working on his first Pokemon Let’s Play. Emile doesn't think something that old should be treated as a representative of the person Emile is now. In any sense. It was so long ago that Emile learned the contents of this log existed when others did; Emile was extremely hurt to be judged for something from so long ago, and that the headline was worded like Emile assaulted someone. The internet was a very different place then, and being facetious was everywhere. It was like their escape from censorship, and the edgier, the better. It was easy to get caught up in the moment and say things Emile didn’t mean when Emile was that young, too. No need to look no further than his terrible old videos for the tasteless things Emile thought were hilarious at that age or how his sense of humor has changed. Or how internet culture as a whole changed. It might be hard to imagine, but back then, people commonly threw around vulgar language and joked about horrible things like it was nothing. Some people were concerned about one part where Emile said, “he's going to rape you” and then said something about a video with a cat. This wasn’t a serious conversation; it was a popular meme at the time and he's sure it was quoting this video. Emile remembers all of his friends quoting it on a daily basis back then, it was like the biggest thing ever.[63]

GLTuLqSWoAA2xm8-1

As for the “pedo-crush” line… Emile doesn't even remember saying it. It was 14 years ago. Probably a joke that was topical. Pedobear was an enormous meme at the time, and jokes dunking on pedophilia were just what Internet humor was then. “Loli = Pedo” was a common joke, and given her username, an easy one. Emile definitely learned a long time ago that these sorts of jokes aren’t cool and could be hurtful to victims. Society moved on from this time many years ago, as Emile has too. The difference between then and now can be seen by just looking at anything Emile types. Most of the rest of the chat is just boring talk about video games they like. Lawly said she doesn’t know why their chats ended abruptly, Emile explained exactly why, and it was because Emile disliked the direction of these chats and how young she was, and he's told her this numerous times. After a few conversations, Emile took a step back and realized this could not continue. She would constantly initiate raunchy topics with his 19-year-old self. Emile was oblivious at first, thought it was funny shitposting, played off their behavior as a joke, and thought of her as a friend with a dirty sense of humor like many friends Emile had back then.[64]

GLTuLrbWAAAagiA-1

After a little while, things started to escalate, and she sent a sexually explicit gift to his house. It made him realize she wasn’t being silly. She was romantically interested in him, not the other way around. The whole thing made him and his mother uncomfortable, and after deliberation, Emile not only rejected Lawly, but cut all contact with her. Emile actually talked about this in the log she posted, and their contact became a lot less frequent after that. It can be seen after this point that they go long periods of time without talking and Emile just tells her he's busy or needs to get going. Emile doesn't look exactly thrilled about this gift.[65]

GLTt3V2XwAA-UHB-1

Emile did not speak to this person for another 10 years - Emile had no intention of ever reestablishing contact. Ten years later, she approached him at a convention and that was how they became friends again. Emile thought after that long, she was a new person and deserved a second chance. It was joking around and Emile was the one who stopped it.[66]

Emile lacked the experience he has now, and thinks this shows he had no romantic or physical interest in her as a teen. And even back then, once Emile knew it wasn’t a game to her, Emile rejected the "game" and backed off. It upset him when Emile learned they wanted him. It put so many things they said into perspective and creeped him out. And Emile can see it when he read this log again. This was his learning experience about why even jokes like this aren’t a good idea, and he's never said anything like this to a minor in the 14 years since. Emile specifically remembers telling his mom that leaving that friendship was the most caring thing to do for this person. Speaking as someone who suffered a lot as a child, Emile has many ground rules involving minors and have taken these sorts of things immensely seriously ever since. Emile read through all of it, and to his surprise, she’s the one who initiates the roleplay. She’s the one who pretends to tickle his feet, and goes much further than that too. She was the origin of it, at least in this chat. Emile doesn't know if she’s where Emile got the idea from, but it’s possible. Emile guess it’s neither here nor there, Emile didn’t know Emile was into that at 19 anyway. This next point is something Emile was unsure about publishing for months. Emile hates that this is relevant, and Emile would not be sharing this if she didn’t post anonymously. Emile cut contact with her thinking she just had an innocent crush that needed to stop. It was a lot worse than that. Emile was disturbed to find she admitted that in those old chats, her goal was to manipulate him into having sex with her. There are two separate times they told him this story, as well as a time they briefly touched on it.[67]

GLTuhwwWMAAN72q-1

Emile thinks the whole picture here changes everything about their side of those logs. Lawly's framing of events to make Emile look like the predator really upset him when Emile saw this again. Regardless of some jokes on a screen, this is the real tragedy Emile prevented from happening. Emile refused to be her friend for so much less than her actual motive. It wasn’t just him either - she said she targeted multiple other adults for sex. His feelings about this are complicated. It's horrible in so many ways that they wanted to use him for underage sex and then frame it like Emile was preying on them because of some text from 14 years ago. But Emile also feels for them when he thinks about how bad their situation probably was. As for the modern stuff they showed, that was after more than a decade of no contact. Emile had only vague recollections of what their conversations were like back then, and years into this new friendship, Emile was asking if, as adults, they wanted to text roleplay but spicy. Emile was forward about that so they wouldn’t think Emile just wanted silly stuff like he remembered them doing. For the record, Emile was single, and they were fine with him asking. Emile wasn’t in a good headspace when he asked them for roleplay stuff; it was the worst year of his life. Emile thought he just wanted to feel close to someone he cared about in that loneliness, she told him she liked/missed roleplay, so Emile thought it natural to ask. Plus by that point, they'd been friends again for years; it was 12 years since he cut contact, Emile didn’t even remember most of their old talks, and they'd put their awkward past behind them, so any bad implications weren’t exactly there for him. Save for the one time they ran into him as an adult, Emile have only ever known this person online. Nothing else ever happened. This was the first time Emile asked them for anything since learning what he liked. More on that in a second. If Lawly is reading this, Emile is sorry he made her hurt. Emile doesn't think what he's said changes that. He means it.[68]

Though, Emile guesses he's surprised at this. They were friends up until this, got along better as adults, and Emile was glad to have her in his life without that inappropriate crush. It was basic knowledge to both of us that she was the one who wanted him and Emile shut it down. Emile even apologized last year for asking for roleplay stuff and they said she forgave him and considered him a “true friend.” Emile doesn't really know what she was thinking. Emile didn’t even remember these chats, so Emile was genuinely confused by what she'd even be speaking out about when Emile heard it was her. It hurt a lot to see her say that she didn't know if Emile ever considered him a real friend. Emile told Lawly that she was awesome and funny and smart. A lot. They got each other through difficult times, she was a bright spot in his darkest time, and Emile admired her for it. Emile spent his birthday with her. She mattered to him so much and they just had a nice conversation about how much we care about each other right before this too. Emile wants Lawly to know that he cried when he wrote this because it was the moment where it really hit him that Emile will never speak to her again. The hardest part of all this was going through their chats to find proof of his intentions. In doing so, Emile opened a time capsule of a beautiful friendship that doesn’t exist any more and saw all the very real ways they helped each other. Emile wishes she talked to him about it. Emile would have listened. Emile saw Lawly as a friend for life. Emile doesn't want people to be angry at the person who posted those chat logs. They were looking out for their friend/his former friend, and it’s possible they didn’t have this context either. They were being a good friend.

Emile at 19

GLTu0mkW0AAGqce-1

Emile has something else that speaks to where his mind was at when he was 19. Emile didn’t want to open up about this at any point, but it’s a part of this now. He's mentioned in the past that he didn’t live the happiest childhood. Due to an especially traumatic time when Emile was assaulted as a child, Emile was left unable to enjoy sex until well into his adult life. The idea of anything sexual beyond edgy teenage jokes on the internet was foreign to him at 19, and Emile thinks his awkwardness shows it. While Emile may not know why Emile sent every little IM 14 years ago, Emile knows what state his body and mind were in at the time, how Emile struggled with comprehending anything sexual, and how it hindered his attempts at relationships. Even with people Emile was comfortable dating, Emile struggled with concepts like them seeing him naked or enjoying sex for years after that. This can be seen this in his videos with how inept Emile was at knowing about sex for so long or how Emile could say unfortunate things and not know it.

Perhaps this is also why Emile didn’t shut things down sooner and how Emile didn’t think of what their overtly sexual messages could mean, besides people just being dumb as fuck at 19. Emile had no experience or understanding of sexual situations - it took his mom pointing it out for him to see what was going on. Emile just matched the vibe of his funny friend until it became too much, and then Emile left.

Because of this accusation, Emile had to explain what he went through as a kid to several friends who wanted an explanation. It was humiliating and excruciating to relive it with them, and Emile cried every time. Emile was trying to essentially train himself to publicly tell every detail, but it became clear after enough hard cries and nightmares that Emile wouldn’t be able to do that and be okay. It brought him back to terrible places Emile thought he was done with. Emile was doing so well at not letting it affect him for a few years now, but this dredged it all up. And now he's here telling everyone. It’s out there forever now. He's sorry. Emile knows it’s a lot.

It’s humiliating to tell people even this much. In order to be believed, Emile has to tell everyone about his childhood trauma, his sex life, his health issues, his breakup, what went on in therapy, the mental ward, how his accuser wanted to use him for sex, and how Emile almost died because of this. It’s extremely painful to talk about. People think they’re owed that from him, and no one will listen if Emile just says “Emile didn’t mean that” or “Emile was only a teenager.” This is the price he's paid to show Emile wasn’t preying on someone. Emile refuses to call it a win that Emile could explain himself in this way. Emile didn’t win when Emile went through that.

After his recent psychological training, Emile thinks his childhood trauma is also how Emile went through so much of life thinking that there was a clear line between his kink and his interest in shoes; also just how “normal” the roleplay felt. Emile had only his interest for most of his life; his roleplaying started innocently long before Emile enjoyed anything physical or even knew Emile had a kink. All Emile knew for a long time was, “Emile thinks shoes are funny,” and Emile didn’t think it was particularly strange that Emile worked them into stories or talked about them so much. Emile would act out stories about his own shoes when Emile was little and just never really stopped doing things like that. It’s also where a lot of his sense of humor has always been, and it really was just a joke for many years. The realization that there could be some crossover happened much later in life. Emile compartmentalized things into what was sexual and what wasn’t, probably because Emile did it for so long without a kink and thought Emile could go on separating those things by not saying anything arousing for me. It was just very messy and flawed logic for a lot of reasons and intertwined with something Emile struggled to make sense of. Emile definitely needed psychiatric help for this, and he's really sorry to everyone Emile hurt because of it.

Enjoying sex is still a problem for him at 34, depending on how much he's reminded of his past. His ability to enjoy it has only existed for a few sections of his life, and Emile still goes months to years without it. Emile wouldn’t even say the kink Emile mentioned is that strong these days. It’s been a long time since Emile last enjoyed it. It’s also associated with trauma now, so Emile doesn't think he’ll be into that again for a long time as it sounds gross. When looking at the full picture of accusations, Emile want to take this moment to say he's never assaulted or threatened anyone. Every single thing shown was entirely in text messages and fiction. It went no further than that. Emile felt that wasn’t acknowledged much in the heat of all this. Emile guesses it is pretty weird. Emile doesn’t think he deserved to nearly be driven to suicide, to have so many personal details revealed, or to watch the health of people Emile love decline, and then for the harassment to continue after it got to that point. Especially when Emile took this seriously long before anything became public. Emile also absolutely made the right decision to leave that toxic friendship that wasn’t fair to Lawly, and Emile already made that choice 14 years ago to the month. Every single issue here was already resolved privately a long time ago.

Emile will be vulnerable here, as he hopes it might help someone. Seeing the online speculation about him unfold caused him so much stress, Emile lost eight pounds in a week, developed internal bleeding, and was in the ER twice for blood loss. Emile would use the bathroom and then lose feeling in his hands. Even worse, they kept needing to take more of his blood every day to test him for his existing health issues that were worsened by this situation. They had to put him on medication to knock him out every night and he's still dependent on it.[69]

Emile's visit to the mental ward

GLTu8fcXwAERLqS-1

Shortly after his fans last heard from him, Emile had dreams and thoughts about ending his own life. Emile felt he didn’t deserve to live; That his life was already over. his mother’s high blood pressure was exacerbated by his suicidal ideations, and her health worsened too. She was in the ER twice and only just recently started to recover. When Emile first called his mom about it, she asked him to hang up and call the state suicide prevention hotline. Some kind folks came to his home, Emile told them his side of it, and they placed him in a mental ward for his own protection.

Emile spent a night in a holding facility awaiting care at one point, which was the worst night of this entire ordeal. It was four concrete walls, not properly heated, all alone with his own thoughts of how Emile wanted to die. But it started to get better after that. Everyone on the inside was kind to him and didn’t judge; they understood how people could misconstrue several things about me. It wasn’t easy, though. Emile cried for his friends many times, not able to know how many of them still liked or cared about me.

GLTu8hBXwAAMrVN-1

While in care, Emile learned Emile hadn’t been okay mentally for a while and didn’t understand some things about himself. Something his friends were worried about before this all happened. Emile found out Emile had undiagnosed psychotic depression and a chemical deficiency in his brain. It explained a lot about his life up to this point. He's not sharing this as an excuse; it is the explanation.

Emile could stay bitter/sad about things for years, Emile handled crisises poorly, and his text roleplay behavior would crop up in times of crisis. Emile now takes medication for this depression. Heck, just being aware Emile had it made it so much easier to know what to do and catch it in the act.

As a result of his training and reflection, Emile realized social knowledge that Emile was lacking. Another behavior that got him into trouble was that if a conversation went far into a topic, and the other person said they were fine with it, that would become the new limit. Emile thought that as long as Emile explained himself and got an OK, we were all good. This follows a logic, and Emile can see why Emile believed this. But Emile understands now that depending on the person, it can get to be too much if we go there again and again.

Emile wants to thank another patient in the psych ward for pointing out that Emile got stuck in mental loops during a crisis and helped to snap him out of it. If you’re reading this, Destiny, you really helped Emile, and he only wishes he was here sooner because he put it into the words that finally got through to him.

Emile thinks he needs to go back in time a bit to talk about his mental health. Back in 2021, Emile went through many hardships all at once and it still stands as the worst year of his life. Emile tried getting psychiatric help, but the mental health industry was overrun due to the pandemic and Emile was denied help at every turn. At one point, it took his healthcare nine months to get back to him, only to be told “sorry, there’s just nothing available.” Similarly, Emile was physically cut off from everyone Emile knew and lived alone in his house for months.

The only help Emile could get for this in 2021 at all was a phone service that sponsors YouTubers, and honestly, it didn’t work and Emile now has a low opinion of it. They didn’t help him figure out his behaviors. It was just “are you suicidal?” and “he's sorry to hear that.” They even encouraged his roleplaying with friends as a fix for the hardships Emile was going through. That was how Emile got back into it after a long time and what pushed him to ask Lawly as an adult. Emile would had a few bad years and think Emile just made some bad calls.

His counselor there didn’t know about the Internet, only listened to him for a few months, and then recommended Emile leave so their schedule could fit in more suicidal people. Emile didn’t realize until 2023 how cruel this was or that Emile still had lasting trauma from 2021 until a friend told him Emile wasn’t okay. Emile thinks all of this had a lasting impact. Emile was operating for the last three years without the psychiatric help Emile really needed.[70]

How Emile Has Been

GLTvCbsWkAEueAZ-1

Emile has done a lot since his audience last heard from him. It wasn’t all bad. After getting out of the psych ward, Emile left home and went to live with his girlfriend. Emile likes to think all his good luck went into having her around. They had rough days during this, but she was so caring, didn’t judge him for mistakes Emile made years ago, knew what decisions were healthy, and never stopped believing Emile wasn’t that same person any longer. "You are the greatest, sweetie!" As soon as Emile felt stable, he took care of her because this situation affected her a lot too. All of this wasn’t fair to her, and Emile helped cause it. For both their sakes, Emile cannot and will not make a mistake like this again. Emile works hard every day to make sure their future together can be a happy, comfortable life. They had a particularly memorable night where Emile opened up about the full timeline that got him here. Emile cried a lot, but by the end of it, they were acting like things were normal again, laughing and making fun of each other. It was a big turning point. Emile thinks it was the moment he finally forgave his past self. Emile didn’t get another job but instead lived as a house husband, making sure everything was taken care of for her. His care made him a better chef and gave him a greater understanding of what she’s always done for him.

Emile had some struggles with spending every waking moment writing down video ideas because it was the only routine Emile knew. His girlfriend liked that Emile was passionate about something at first, but later worried because it put pressure on him to consider a return to videos. She was right, but stopping was an especially difficult thing to do. This craft has been so much of his life up to this point, and he's always loved the joy it brings to others. It gave him a strong purpose. Emile just kind of sat around for days, not knowing what to do with himself.

About two months into being gone from the internet, Emile began wishing he would be killed. Emile didn’t want to do it himself any more, but he felt like it would bring an end to his suffering, that he could rest easy believing that. Emile felt like without his ability to entertain, he had no place in the world. Seeking healthcare where Emile was staying was difficult, his condition was worsening, and he realized he needed to come home. A lot of people may live in places where this isn’t a problem, but the added stress of tremendous medical bills didn’t help his health either.

Sadly, this meant his partner and Emile couldn’t see each other for a long time. They're long-distance and this situation was so taxing on her health that she needed a medical leave from work. All of this broke right at the start of a visit from his girlfriend. This trip was meant to be extra-special because they were one day away from getting on a plane to go on vacation where she would have met all of his friends for the first time, and this was to be the trip where they would have figured out their long term future living together. Instead, Emile spent half of the visit preparing a statement and the other half in a mental ward while she sat home alone with his friend Tim. Emile didn’t even get to say goodbye because he was still in hospital when she flew home and was forcibly placed in a ward with no visitors. This meant she used up all her vacation time on a trip where Emile didn’t get to see her. Once Emile needed to come home from seeing her, he didn’t know when they could meet again. It’s been hard when they were used to visiting often before and had a whole visit taken away from them at the last second. The timing of this could not have been worse. It’s actually kept him from seeing the person Emile loves. Emile still don’t know when Emile can see her again.

There was one night during this time when Emile called a friend and he said some unintentionally harsh things to him about the situation. Emile was in tears and felt like there was no use even trying to explain himself any more. His girlfriend got loud for the very first time Emile would ever heard and told him he's not a bad person, that people only have one side of this, that every person he's talked to still thought Emile was good, that most people WILL see reason, Emile has the best community, and they are probably just waiting for his side. That she loves him and their cat loves him, and that can't be faked. That she is sick of seeing him cry and that Emile didn’t deserve this much punishment when Emile took this so seriously before anything was even made public. Every step of this, everyone told him “Emile wishes he could just say something to make this better.” No one else could. But she figured it out.[71]

Moving Forward

GLTvJFqX0AA2sNs-1

Emile would like to make an ode to his friends. Several reached out the night Emile came home from the hospital. They didn’t want him to be alone and still believed Emile was a good person. Heck, Emile thinks some of them believed Emile was more innocent than he did. It took him a while to see this your way. Emile loves all of them, his friends. Even if they were critical of him, Emile cannot bring himself to not love them. Some of it was things Emile already agreed with, some of it was things Emile needed to hear. And some of it was telling him this wasn’t as bad as Emile thought. Emile wants to thank his best friend Tim/NintendoCapriSun. He handled so many decisions in all of this for him when Emile was not well enough to make them for himself. He cooked for him every day when Emile wasn’t allowed near the knives. Emile thinks he really saved him. Please support Tim with all you can.

Emile didn’t say this last time. He's so sorry for all the heartache and worry Emile caused his friends and caused his fans. Emile worked hard every day to make sure Emile would never make them feel like this again and could be dependable once more. Emile really didn’t mean to do harm here, and feel he's learned about himself in ways Emile didn’t know he needed to. These are positive things. Regardless of his clarifications and context, Emile definitely still made mistakes and learned lessons, as well as learned new things about how his mind works. Emile doesn't want to get carried away and make it sound like he's 100% blameless. Emile needed psychiatric help for his depression and roleplay behavior. Emile took his criticism of his person seriously and is forever working every day to ensure nothing like this could ever happen again. It will not happen again. Since Emile was privately confronted about this, Emile saw his therapist before anything was made public.

Emile has never missed a dosage of 4 medications and supplements that better regulate his brain activity and feel more self-aware and cognizant than at any point in his life up to this point. Emile can be absolutely certain that he would never disappoint anybody like this again. And Emile says that knowing people will hold him to a higher standard than ever. Emile has and always will continue to give it his all in the psychiatric help Emile sought out. In his mind, nothing after his apology changed that Emile meant every word and was already in the process of making good on all of this. Months before anything went public. Some of these, Emile learned and grew from many years ago. Emile would have mentioned all of this sooner had his mental trauma not kept him from it. Emile needed to heal.

Just because Emile knows it will come up, he has to be real - this whole experience was so harmful to his health, he's not sure that Emile even wants this job any more. Emile doesn't know if the life he would have if he started making videos again would be anything he would like. And it sucks to admit that about something he had such a passion for. It’s something Emile would have to think about for longer. What little creative energy Emile had would always go toward this and not some fun video he wanted to make. Emile cared more about telling his side of it, fixing his problems, and improving his mental health. He's in no state to perform, so don’t expect him to show up at any events. Emile thinks many people will still have criticisms for him, Emile anticipates many jokes at his expense too, and that’s okay. Emile wouldn’t have come here today if he didn’t know and accept that. Emile encouraged his audience to please call the suicide prevention hotline in their area if they are struggling; right now. It worked for him, so maybe this situation can save a life, and then Emile can say his pain was worth it.[72]

Emile's Follow-Up Messages

Emile's response to Masae

Emile's response to Masae's statement

Following the release of his full statement, Emile replied to several messages he received. In one reply, Emile called his past behaviour "pretty weird" and "pretty gross", and said that it "wasn't a great way to act" and that he "still hurt feelings, consent or no."[73][74][75] In another reply, Emile encouraged his audience to show respect towards Masae, saying "Hey, she's still a friend of my friends and someone I loved for a long time. Let's treat her with respect."[76] Emile also encouraged his audience to show respect towards Emily as well in two replies, saying "I don't want Emily run off the internet. She's really good at what she does, and it'd be a shame if she quit. I will champion the message not to harass as much as is needed." and "Hey, let's treat her with respect, okay? I still hurt her feelings, consent or no. I don't want to entertain theories without proof."[77][78]

On April 17th, 2024, Emile posted a tweet thanking people for reading his statement and expressing support, and said that this "has been an immensely traumatic time" for him and that he "just wants the arguing to stop". Emile said that "In my statement, I pleaded for no harassment toward the people I named. All of them are people I cared about a lot, and I just want the arguing to stop. If you're name-calling or making their lives hard, that isn't helping the situation."[79][80][81]

On April 18th, 2024, Emile responded to Masae's statement by quote retweeting it, in which he wished her the best, saying "I want everyone to know there is no ill will on my side either. You said what you thought was necessary to get people to leave you alone. It was other people who made assumptions, that was why I needed to say what I said. I wish you the best life without me in it, you deserve it. You are a wonderful human being who has done so much for me and I want you to succeed and come back from this."[82][83]

Emile responds to Lawly's response

Emile's response to Lawly's response

Emile responded to Lawly's follow-up document by saying that he wasn't trying to distort things and is happy to make corrections, saying that "many of these conversations happened so long ago, it's difficult to remember everything with perfect clarity", but would try his best to do so.[84] First, Emile believed his mother when she said Lawly had a crush on him after she sent that gift and he still distanced himself. It was clear to see that was correct.[85] Emile stands by what he said; that he knew things had gone too far when they were younger. He similarly cannot verify when/how long they talked using Skype. He knows they didn't talk for a long time. Whether it was zero contact or minimal, he's not trying to obfuscate; his intent was the same.[86] Emile said his goal was to "slowly fade out" in the screenshots he posted and not let anything develop on either side. Regardless, he distanced myself for years and thought she deserved a second chance much later. He was just mistaken that the adding as a friend happened at a con.[87] Emile admitted that he did add her 7 years later and not 10, they briefly chatted a few times, but it's months/years between until they actually reconnected in 2021 and became good friends again.[88] Later when she told Emile she wanted to have underage sex with older men, it contextualized what the intent appeared to be with her crush, so he apologized for that misunderstanding. And he still prevented anything from happening.[89] As for who originally brought up talk about shoes, Emile apologized for speculating about that. It wasn't relevant. The logs she posted were probably the oldest record he's seen about that and he still didn't know it was tied to any kink due to his inability to enjoy sex.[90] Emile revealed he has been in a headspace of deep self-reflection for the past several months so he's been struggling to make sense of these through-lines in his life. He also appreciated Lawly wishing him well, and said he will miss her.[91]

As a side note, I don't mind answering questions on my Twitter, but keep in mind that I'm not always online. Also remember that I don't give out my friend code or answer questions about future projects."
  • "Okay, so last video: There's something I wanted to address because I was called out on two things by you, the viewers. First thing is entirely my fault. I typed up Beautifly's name as "Beautiful." I make mistakes, I deserved to be called out on it. Thank you for pointing that out. Second though, I really need to address. [Talking very fast] It was when I said that Wurmple evolves at random. I received hundreds upon hundreds of comments trying to educate me that it depends on gender, time of day, or some other not-random factor. I am here to disprove this because it is not dependent on gender but on personality value. Gender is only one of four integers that make up a Pokémon's personality value. This is a 32-bit value between 0 and 4,294,967,295, represented in binary, that was introduced in Generation III, one generation after gender was implemented for Pokémon other than Nidoran. Breaking down how this works, Wurmple's evolution depends on the last two bytes of this integer, only one of which decides the Pokémon's gender. It is determined by taking these numbers combined between the two bytes of memory, dividing them by 10, and seeing if the remainder is more or less than 5. If the remainder is less than 5, you get a Silcoon. If it is equal to or greater than 5, you get a Cascoon. There's many player's guides floating around out there that have this detail wrong, so I can understand why you would think otherwise. But if you're gonna try to correct me, please get your facts straight before you do, otherwise, I CAN AND WILL NERD OUT ON YOU. But, what do I know? I can't even spell "Beautifly" right!" — Chuggaaconroy nerding out on you regarding Wurmple.
  • "I know it can be hard to say how you really feel about things, I know it can be scary and make you feel like you don't belong someplace. I've had plenty of that feeling throughout my life. But the fact is, I see so many people every day, that seem to believe they are powerless. That they won't really make a difference because they're one person. And more than anything else in my life, this was already something that I strongly believed in, but more than anything else in my life, that experience of sharing the news that Teddy had passed away with all of you: If there was anything good that came from losing Teddy... It was seeing just how powerful expression can be. In this amazing world, where everything is interconnected, where you can talk to anyone at anytime, and I think it's such a shame that there are people out there that use this to make other people feel terrible, to hurt other people. It has tremendous power, and ironically, the people that I see hurting other people with this ability, are those who believe they are powerless, are those who believe they won't make a difference. And in a lot of cases, I feel that's why people do it, because they feel like it won't matter and they might as well make themselves noticed somehow. What I'm trying to say is: Don't forget to express what you feel. All of us I'm sure, I know definitely I have, wished at some point or another that they had somebody that would be empowering or who would say something like that to them. And YOU can be that person that you wished you had." — Emile's speech at the end of Episode 67 of his Pokémon Platinum Let's Play, on the power of expression.

Trivia

  • Emile says outright he's playing certain games because he personally loves them and wants more fans to either know about the game, or convince his fans to give the game a second chance to impress them. Most of the time, this works, with many people even admitting to playing along with him or deciding to replay it after watching his Let's Plays.
  • Emile's game collection is ordered alphabetically and by platform.
  • Emile says outright he's playing certain games because he personally loves them and wants more fans to either know about the game, or convince his fans to give the game a second chance to impress them. Most of the time, this works, with many people even admitting to playing along with him or deciding to replay it after watching his Let's Plays. The ones listed here are just a selection of many.
    • Ōkami in particular got a lot more sales after he started playing it. Coincidentally, Ōkamiden was released near the end of his series, and likely gained popularity thanks to the first game's new fanbase.
    • Xenoblade Chronicles 1 gained a much higher profile after Emile began his LP, which was exasperated when Shulk was announced for Super Smash Bros. 4 during the LP's hiatus.
  • In general, Emile tends to have a low opinion on his Let's Plays of video games that have since been remade, as they now appear outdated in contrast to whatever changes and/or new content the remakes have to offer.
    • In his fifth anniversary video, Emile reveals that he personally thinks his early Lets Plays suck, mainly because he was so afraid to be himself back then. The fact that he was limited to only ten minute videos at the time forced Emile to rush through games, in stark contrast to the more in-depth playthroughs that attempt to show off everything they had to offer that he's since become known for. The current playlist description for his Mother LP explicitly singles it out as his least favorite LP.
    • Emile admitted in part 17 of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 that he regretted using Haywire the Zebstrika on his team in the first game. This is due to Haywire severely falling off in usefulness halfway through the game and learning the winner of the nickname contest had plagiarized their name and reasoning from another website.
  • Emile is considered to a VIP for the fandoms of several games he plays, including EarthBound, Ōkami, and Xenoblade Chronicles.
  • In March 2023, on the 15th anniversary of Emile's first Let's Play video "EarthBound - Part 1: Meteor" being uploaded, the YouTubeGaming Twitter page posted a tweet referencing the occasion, referring to Emile as a "now let's play legend."[92]
  • Emile has mentioned that he was poor as a child.[2][3]
  • Emile's favorite Pokémon Gen VII starter is Rowlet and his least favorite is Litten.[93]
  • He has shown himself to be incredibly generous. For example, he once gave away 24 copies of Xenoblade Chronicles to his friends for Christmas in 2013 and he gave away 30 copies of the game for his viewers for a contest in his Xenoblade LP including four factory sealed ones.[94] This generosity is also shown in a few StephenVlogs videos, where we can see many of the gifts he has given to Stephen and Mal.
  • Emile got the name "Chuggaaconroy" from a random name generator on a Cartoon Planet website.[95]
  • Emile has hesitated on doing a Fire Emblem Let's Play due to its fanbase.[96]
  • Emile's favorite Pokémon is Archen and its evolved form Archeops. This motivated him to use an Archen in Pokémon Black & White.[97]
    • His favorite Pokémon before Gen V was Lucario, and before Gen IV it was Wartortle.[97]
  • Emile voiced the Postman in Zelda Universe's 2020 dub of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D.[98]
